I still maintain all my special interests and acquire new ones from time to time but I find them all to be related in someways. All of my interests are very special to me even if they make me seem immature for my age.
Thoose I remember are:
3-8 years old
* Turtles
* Lego
* Dinosaurs
8-13 years old
* The x-files (and everything conected to that)
* Scouting
13-17
* Scotland
* Aikido
* Scouting
From 17 years old I tend to have just kept going with stuff that have always been there more or less.
* Reading
* Chatbased roleplaying
* Japanese culture
* Folklore and everything supernatural
I have also always love to create stuff like painting, scarpbooking and origami. Music have also always played a big part.
since always and still: drawing, music, animals, nature. I'll leave the specific music/animal details out for now. >:-)
preschool through 3rd grade: dinosaurs (can still tell you the layout of the 4th floor of the ny museum of natural history as it stood before renovation) and fossils
4th grade for years onward: horses (This includes breyer models and their collector's manuals- ! !) (sort of pushed back by boys since 8th gr.) I rode then, and still draw them all the time.
added in 6th grade onward: studying foreign languages (writing systems, grammar, sounds), Othello game (middle school)
added in 10th grade onward: identifying plants/trees/birds/birdsongs everywhere I go)
also: reading. (in recenter years, I guess Harry Potter has been one.)
martial arts
_Titanic_ history (rusty now... met 3 survivors _before_ 1997 film had everyone jump on board)
xootr
history (civil war nut in 8th grade; go nuts to see 1700s houses, etcl) and old maps of where I am, what is still left, etc. er,
takeoffs on the above interests (e.g. foreign language calligraphy/songs, particular obscure niches of music/instruments, breeding certain species of fish, etc.)
and the latest.... learning about Asperger's!! (huge pile of books on loan on shelf right now... and here I am online too.)
Reading this thread has jogged my memory! I loved certain musicals and books in certain years since childhood through now, drawing takeoffs on them and reciting them endlessly and whatnot.
It's funny to see some childhood interests listed for others that came out when I was already in college...

Are you gay? I am gay myself and I was just noticing your interests seem kinda lesbianish. Sorry if that is offensive to ask...
What gave it away?! lol. It's not offensive at all. It has been something that has been glaringly obvious my entire life but, well, never underestimate the power of denial. >.> Being out is something very new for me and I am not entirely comfortable with myself around other people because I do not wish to do something that may offend. I tend to be an open book and keeping boundaries is something I am learning but self censorship kind of tears me apart.
Have you found that your interests have also reflected your queer nature?

I used to be the same way. I tried to hide being gay but it made me wanna die inside. I just gave up and decided to be an open book. If people caught on then they were smart and they could be allowed in on my world. Many NT people are more in denial than YOU are though, I found out. My mother had NO idea. I was frankly surprised as hell.
My interests really have not reflected my queer nature. I don't think...
Psychology - since I've had to study people like germs in a petri dish all my life, I can adopt the psychologist's way of thinking with ease. I'm majoring in psychology because I want to do autism research when I grow up.
Medical things - I read medical textbooks for fun and love to jabber on about diseases. My doctors love me because I can (almost) talk to them on their level about whatever I'm suffering from ("Dr. Doe, I am experiencing hyperhidrosis, malaise, and angina with aripiprazole.")
Physics (relativity and quantum) - fascinating stuff, though I am no expert and lack the math skills to become one. I keep abreast of new developments by reading pop science books.
Certain writers - I should be reading more widely of literature, but it is in my nature to pick favorites and obsess over them.
That's about it for right now. As many on this forum know, I used to be super obsessed with the Holocaust, but that went away when I went on antipsychotics. Now I am simply interested in the subject, like an NT might be. The same goes with religion. Maybe my preoccupation with those things was more a manifestation of depression than Asperger's.

Let's see. In no particular order (i.e., not chronological--just as I remember them; also, past and present):
Abnormal Psychology/Criminal Psychology (I was hoping to find a Forensic Psych program in grad school, but those are rare. Guess I'll keep on studying it myself.).
TV production logos (I love the CLG Wiki)
Astronomy/physics (couldn't get the math, still love studying the concepts. I believe that Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle applies to the macroscopic level as well as the microscopic. )
Time travel (always, always, ALWAYS!). I loved the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies from a very early age. I just bought the trilogy from Amazon.
Nature of the universe; its beginning and ending (I have an illustrated copy of COSMOS with some lovely artist's renditions of the final days on Earth).
"Cosmic Calendar"--take a look at this: http://visav.phys.uvic.ca/~babul/AstroC ... -slide.htm
Alternate realities (I loved SLIDERS...until the final season).
Dystopian fiction
TV TROPES
Fear/phobias (I used to keep a list of the occurrences of phobias on TV shows. Most popular: claustrophobia.) Also, my first Psychology paper was about fear's functions/usefulness. I had a lot of fun writing that one.
Comparative religion/spirituality
ASD's. Interestingly, before it even really occurred to me that I might have AS (or even knew what it was), I always wondered about the true nature of autism. I even suggested the possibility of "sensory overload" to my Sensation and Perception professor as a reason for withdrawing from everything (he said he wasn't sure).
That's all I can think of right now. If anyone wants to discuss any of these, please PM me.
