Oh I really dislike the mall. I only go to them maybe once a year. I do all my necessary usual shopping about an hour before stores close, far less people to deal with.

Op shops rock. The clothes are cheap and nice and soft as they've been washed already lots. You also find cool things that no-one else has. I've always hated looking like the fashion following herd. Must be something about my contrary aspie nature

I don't like malls. I have no reason to go to a mall and I hope it stays that way.

I hate it. There is just too much going on. It's too rushed. People are very pushy. It's very noisy. I cannot process all of it, it just becomes too much. I start feeling like I'm trapped.

I avoid it at all costs. I used to go just for Barnes & Noble, but thankfully they built one outside the mall in It's own building.

Funny, the biggest trends so far have been lighting and sound so far...and Barnes and Noble/some sort of game place like EB or Gamestop. (cheers)
I absolutely can't stand fluorescent lighting, it's too bright and sometimes the sound it makes drives me up the wall. I noticed a post about a noise made to scare away birds--they're definitely scaring me away.
The cultural experience of it isn't the best either. I despise the idea of spending money just to spend it. I can understand the pleasure you can get out of it, but definitely not in an environment where I just want to put in earplugs and keep my eyes closed the entire time.
I wonder about Barnes and Noble though--do we like it for the books (for those of us who love B+N), or the quiet? I like it for both.

I like it for both, too. Plus they have comfortable chairs and ottomans so I can sit down, relax, and enjoy a book in silence... AND still be getting out of the house!

I like the people there a lot more, too. I've met some friends there, and sometimes just had a discussion with someone random about something of interest.

Man, you said it. Every time some kid goes past on a set of Wheelies, everyone in my family watches me - my head whips around to watch them, and then I talk about my dream of throwing out gravel under the kids shoes.

I hate the mall - too many people, not enough space, so much unadulterated consumerism.

I would also like to add that everything is exactly the same. I have a good friend who's one of those stereotypical gay males that LOVES to shop. I cannot emphasize enough how much this boy loves shopping. What's more, when I get dragged to the mall with him, we have to go in every freaking store, and I keep telling him- WHY? All the clothes, shoes, sunglasses, etc look exactly the same! All the stores sell the same junk.

After a few hours of OVERstimulation, it all blends together and I feel like I'm in a sensory deprivation chamber!

LOL
I go to a mall sometimes, every time I get a Victoria's Secret free gift card in the mail. Here is my mall routine: park in the same space at the strip mall a block away from the actual mall, go to Barnes and Noble, go to VS to get the "Free Panty," walk back to the car, and go home.
I always feel really awkward at VS, but, it's free underwear.

I hate buying clothing. I do, however, enjoy buying food, and I like supermarkets a lot. Nobody hangs out at supermarkets except for normal, sensible people interested in cooking and eating. Freaks hang out in the mall.

YES. I'm an internet shopper. I've always disliked the mall.

If you have to go to the mall, it's not really free. But the trip to B/N sounds good!

When I go to a mall, I don't make a day of it. I go directly to the store that sells what I need, buy it, and leave. Normally though, if I can get an item online without the shipping being ridiculous, I buy it online instead.

hahahaha holy crap...you don't even understand. I have always wanted to throw sand under those kids. I HATE those shoes...honestly. My two little cousins have them and I always make them change shoes when they come to my house because 1 scuff marks on my floor would make me have a meltdown, 2 the scooosh noise they make drives me nuts, and 3 one of them is BOUND to fall down and require first aid, something I'm available to give but not excited about too much unless it's serious. Skinned knees don't count as serious.

I do go there once in a while with my mom or with my sister or something. But they make me so nervous, especially when it's really crowded and all of the bright lights and loud noises.

Malls, and Ikea are two places that make me upset...too many choices, too many colors, and being female, I'm supposedly able to magically get it all right. Years ago, before we heard of aspie, a guy friend in the same car group I belong to noticed I was really stressed out about the Ikea portion of every single get together...he felt stress in other public places and was able to spot it right away. He would weed me out toward the back of the pack, keep me from running off and feeling terrorized. He would talk very little, but calmly, grab my wrist if I started to cry or freak, and we would limit our purchases to just batteries and CFL bulbs. Its a lot better now.
