If so, what does that mean for you?

I like to think of myself as a non-conformist, though some people might not consider me so. I enjoy the things I enjoy because they make me happy, irregardless of whether or not they're popular. I wear clothes that are more suitable for someone about 5 years younger than me, I sleep with stuffed animals and play with toys and I prefer to hang out with my parents and brother rather than going to parties. I'm proud of still having my virginity and I don't ever want to lose it. I am unusually proud of my cat, and I view becoming a "crazy cat lady" as something to aspire to.

Nope, i always try to walk the path in between. Which means sometimes i'll have to conform and other times i do not. I am happy though that now that i am older the pressure of needing to conform is not that big as when i was a teen/early 20s. Even then i wanted to live my own life and do it my way, but i also really wanted to learn how to blend in. I'm happy with my life these days, its hard work but it pays off.

^^ Yaye greetings quaker. I do believe this is very interesting as I do believe that all humans require to conform at least a small amount to some society, as otherwise this would be very difficult to survive. ^^ However, I do believe also that I understand very much your meaning and believe that I would be very frightened to conform to matters that I do not believe within.

I believe that although parties may be very fun, I believe that I am frightened to visit them and enjoy remaining at home with Nell and Plato and my parents. However, I do believe there is a very scary demon who enjoys visiting me as of late. He is a very lovely demon, however I do believe that he enjoys making me scared.

I am in a lot of ways, but we all have to conform at least somewhat in order to be treated like people.

This question always makes me think of Steve Martin's concert routine, "The Non-Conformist's Oath":

STEVE: Now repeat after me - I promise to be different!

AUDIENCE: I promise to be different!

STEVE: I promise to be unique!

AUDIENCE: I promise to be unique!

STEVE: I promise not to repeat things other people say!

AUDIENCE: (breaks down into confused laughter)

STEVE: Good!

No one is a non conformist, however much they like to think they are.

I present to you, three scenarios.

A. Someone conforms in order to fit in.

B. Someone deliberately tries to be "different" from the "norm."

C. Someone conforms, or does not conform, based on whatever he/she wants to do.

Person "C" is a true non-conformist, even if he/she conforms from time to time.

Person "B" is an "Anti-conformist." He/she is still a conformist, but has a different social "polarity."

I don't really need to explain person "A."

I'm not sure if I'm non conformist or just contrary. Or are they the same?

And whatever I am, I'm worse when people are passing some sort of judgement on me. EG. At my old house the neighbours looked down their noses at people who didn't cut their grass regularly, so I didn't cut my grass regularly and when I did, I did a really terrible job of (on purpose). Where I am now, the neighbours don't care, so I do it properly.

well, I will put up my definitions of each for ya, as how I interpret them. They are rather simple and may not convey the whole meaning of it.

Conformist - Someone who lets society say who they are. They have a tendency to let society tell them what to like/etc and they listen. Also known as the "If I say jump you jump" mentality

Non-Conformist - Someone who defines their own self as how THEY THEMSELVES would. They don't just do as society says without truly thinking about it first. It has, however, has a branch that just simply merges into conformity simply because there are people who take this attitude because its cool or fashionable or whatever. yes I know, thinking of it in depth is a bit of a mind screw scenario.

Contrarianism - Not Following just because. Someone had posted a great example of it. Someone talking bout not mowing the lawn simply because their neighbor looked down on them because of it.

I am non-conforming to the conformity of non-conformists. Even in non-conformists circles, I am still the odd woman out
