Who is responsible for this statement? Sounds like something from a bitter, aging feminist who's got "ishoos" with men.

Oh, I disagree! I think the comment is hilarious -- at least partly because it is true. A male gyno can never really know what it's like to have your lady bits poked and prodded like they are in an exam! I had to go to a man for a pelvic once when I was in college. The college had only one doctor, and he was a man (weird choice for a women's college, if you ask me). Ha! Never again; it was so much more uncomfortable. He didn't even warm up the speculum! After that, I found a woman gyno in town, and saw her even though it cost me and the college clinic was free for students. The comfort level and the fact that she understood what I was going through made a huge difference. Have insisted on seeing female nurse/midwives ever since...they know what they are doing!

Now, if she'd compared a carless mechanic to a male allergist, or dentist, or neurologist...that would indicate issues with men, as it would imply that all men are incompetent doctors. They're not. In fact, they're not necessarily incompetent gynecologists. However, they will never know how it feels to own a "car" that needs to be inspected every year, now will they?
