So?

There is likely not enough buffer space dedicated to this website to simultaneously contain a comprehensive list of Important Men in History and the website itself.

Not dissin' ... just sayin' ...

The problem with many of the important women is that their names are not included in historical records.

I give the example of the Influenza of 1918/19.

50 Million people perished from this pandemic in 1918/19. (675,000 just in the US alone, when the population was a 1/3 of what it is today). Of those that developed this influenza and survived it was oft noted that they received good nursing care. Many of those that provided this good nursing care were unpaid caregivers (family members, friends, neighbous). Most of these were women. There were many women who risked their lives to care for people in make shift hospitals, they did not know and understand all the means of transmission, but they knew that they were taking great risks by tending to the sick and dying of their homes and communities.

These heroes go unnamed.

(My source for this information is the documentary "We Heard the Bells" and it is available on youtube for those interested).

Another thing to consider regarding who is notable. In femme's original list, there is mention of Gloria Steinem. She is notable, but she was notable because men took interest in her. Slapping on a pair of bunny ears and posing as a Playmate in Hugh Hefners club caused some interest when her story was published. I'm not saying that Gloria Steinem wasn't intelligent and interesting in her own right. However, I DO wonder why Betty Friedan (author of The Feminine Mystique) was not included in this list of notable women. She was actually the groundbreaking feminist (but not as glamourous as Gloria Steinem and not as noted by the media (especially in the 1960s) which was controlled by men.

So, my point is that there are a great deal of notable woman. It is just that their names are not recorded in history either because their contributions are completely overlooked or they just did not appear sexy enough to be more considered "important".

Maybe it is time to change this...
