Do you drink?
I didn't drink for most of my life; tried it over the past year; i think it is not good for me, even in small amounts. It makes me worry that I am acting strange, so I withdraw. I am much more able to be in social situations when I don't drink because i feel in control of myself and aware of the people around me and what the are up to. Also, i think there is something chemical about alcohol that does not agree with my chemistry. I have wondered if other aspie females think they react to alcohol differently from "the world."

Alcohol just makes me sleepy, so i rarely drink. Other people get so happy and carefree when they drink, but i never experience the same thing. On special occassions i do like to have some wine or malibu, but for the taste and not the alcohol.

I love the taste of beer, but I hate alcohol. I really wish there was more alcohol-free beer.
I'm really sensitive to alcohol, but I build up a tolerance quickly. I was drinking regularly for a couple of years, and I could drink my ex under the table, but now one sip of beer makes me sleepy and gives me sugar cravings.

I do. I usually have a glass of wine at night, and sometimes I enjoy a captain and diet coke.

What do you mean by alcohol-free? The vast, vast majority of low-alcohol beers are simply lagers with the alcohol removed. Is that what you want? Might as well drink water. In Britain, you can easily buy very low alcohol lagers (0.5%-2.5%) and value bitter (2%), but these are just watered down versions of the real thing. Watered-down bitter doesn't do anything for me when the real thing is so quaffable and low in ABV in the first place.

How low does it have to be? Plenty of milds in this country can be bought and are at around the 3 to 3.5% mark.

The point of having a beer is that beer contains alcohol - this is why people drink. And as I say there are only one or two low-alcohol beers in the whole world that can seriously match up to a decent regular brew.

Not me - I just like the taste :D My mom is the same way.
I'm in the U.S., so we may or may not be talking about the same thing. I'm talking about beer that has had most of the alcohol removed (not watered down - I hope). I hear there are good ones, but I haven't found one yet, and that's why I wish they were more common.
But I have to go gluten-free in a couple weeks because my nursing toddler was diagnosed with celiac disease, so I should just forget good beer and stick with tea and chocolate, I think.

Are you from the United States? If you are, there are no real low-alcohol alternatives that actually taste good. Low-alcohol beer doesn't work well because there needs to be alcohol there for the flavours to work and for you to feel a buzz. The lower in ABV you go, the thinner the beer gets and the less of a base the beer has to work with. I wouldn't generally touch a beer under 4% in bottle, and any beer (even a mild) much under 3.5% is usually a non-starter. Bear in mind that at 3.5% you have to drink quite a few pints to get drunk - in fact, you'd end up bloated before you got drunk at that ABV anyway.

Depending on where you are in the US I could recommend some decent local dark milds (at around the 3.5% mark or thereabouts)

The American ones I found were:

Jester King Commercial Suicide Dark Mild - Austin, TX - 3.2%
Cigar City Chaveta India Dark Mild - Tampa, FL - 3.5%
Alchemist Shut the Hell Up - Waterbury, VT - 3.7%
Revolution Workingman Mild - Chicago, IL - 3.5%

One of my favourite bottled beers is Manns Brown Ale, which is a 2.8% mild but that's the weakest you can really go and still have flavour. Even then, the beer is very, very sweet.

Extremely occasionally, craft brewers will make beers very, very low in ABV (like BrewDog's Nanny State, a 1.1% low alcohol beer that was listed as very good for the ABV, but also bitter and unbalanced due to the lack of alcohol - BrewDog only produced the beer to take a swipe at the Portman Group).

Hmmm, I might be able to find something local then - there are a lot of craft brewers. I don't have a very discriminating taste, so bitter is fine, but thin or light is undrinkable.
I'm probably out of luck though because when I haven't been drinking regularly, I feel the effects of regular beer with even a couple sips, so my goal of drinking an entire beer is probably not realistic.

When I go out karaoke-ing, to play pool, or such, I drink Dead Nazis (Jagermeister & Rumplemintz). I'm not much into beer, but love Woodchuck. I'd prefer weed to alcohol though, since then I don't experience any bad side- or after-effects.

I'll only drink maybe once every three months or so - I'd drink more often if I could afford to and if not for the fact most of my friends don't go out these days. I can't stand the taste of alcohol so cannot drink at home or in a pub/bar, I only drink when I'm going out clubbing, only cocktails or occasional flavoured shots, and I drink to get drunk...right now as I don't drink as much as I once did I'm finding it hard to know my limits so I keep getting too drunk :?

i try to have a drink a day as it is good for the heart, and heart disease runs in my family (i've had high blood pressure for my entire adult life, and have been medicated for 8 years. my dad had his first heart attack at age 39, eeeeek).

you can reduce your risk of heart problems by 25% by having a drink a day:

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/arti ... eally?bn=1

i tend to be bad and skip a day or two days, then have 2 beer after the break. or i go for one with double alcohol content, which is probably not as advantageous. also, every so often i will have about 3 beer on one night of the weekend.

having a pint of beer when i am in socialising helps me to relax, though i try not to depend on it. i spent about 17 or 18 years not touching any alcohol because i assumed i would automatically become an alcoholic if i allowed myself to drink. it was not logical, but i was young and i was worried i would make a mess of my life. now i know i can moderate, so i am not so worried.

I drink quite a lot actually. I enjoy it. I enjoy the taste of most types of alcohol. I live in Prague so beer is a must. I also love Caribbean spiced rum, Irish whiskey, and slivovice (local potent drink made from plums). I don't like wine so much though.

I also love the feeling of being drunk. Each type of alcohol has its own feeling. Beer makes me sort of jolly, but also sleepy. Rum makes me happy and goofy and the sugar gives me a bit of energy (I like to think it makes me feel like a pirate). Whiskey makes me feel relaxed and calm. Slivovice, vodka, and wine don't make me feel "drunk" really, though when I think back on it later I realize that my judgment was impaired and I acted kind of strange on it.

I have to be careful I don't drink too much. I have a general rule of not drinking every day, and I try not to drink too much during the week. On the weekends, though, it's quite a different story! I don't go crazy every weekend, but I enjoy it when I do and it's usually worth the hangover.

I used to have a glass of wine every night and a few beers at the weekend. The wine was because high blood pressure and heart problems run in my family, too.

I've kind of stopped because of meds making my stomach sick. I can get away with just one drink on my meds though, so it might be worth taking up again.

I can't binge drink without disastrous results.
