Okay so I have had all the symptoms of thrush for about two and a half weeks but my Northern UK side of me was too proud to tell anyone. My Mum found out after I admitted it to her and told my carer (female thank goodness!). I went to the doctor and he (I would have prefered a woman) prescribed me canasten. Now the cream I had no problem with, but he gave me this gigantic pill that I had to put on a stick and... insert. I tried, but having never had sex education classes, I wasn't sure what to do, where to put it etc. I ended up injuring myself and now I feel like I have been violated by a plastic rod...

Yeah I know it's kind of stupid but has anyone else ever felt this way too?

Sorry to hear you're going through that. It sounds like an awful experience.

you can get oral pills too. i prefer those, as the vaginal insertions are definitely uncomfortable (and they often don't stay inside long enough to really cure anything). you might want to go back to your doctor to get a pill you can swallow.

pretty sure you can buy them from chemists too instead of going to the doctors, the adverts are always on tv

useful if you work because then you have to pay like £7 for each medication your doctor prescribes, so for basic stuff its often alot cheaper to just buy it yourself. although if on state benefits you get it free....
but still, no embarassment.
oh and at most places you can request to see a female doctor or the practice nurse if it's something personal and you don't feel comfortable with a male

I got SO confused reading this thread! Here in the U.S., only oral candidiasis is called "thrush", vaginal candidiasis is called a "yeast infection".

That makes sense. I was confused at first too.

To the OP - There are over-the-counter creams that cure yeast infections (at least there are here in the States). It comes with a tube and what you do is insert the tube into your vagina and attach the vial of cream on the other end, and squeeze the cream inside of you. You do it every night before you go to bed for about a week, and your infection will be gone. I know from experience. :)

You only need to go to the doctor if your yeast infection turns into a bladder infection later on, which can sometimes happen. Even if that happens, you will be able to take oral pills to cure it (though it will turn your urine bright, unusual colors). I also know this from experience.

ooooooo i have one further horrible experience beyond that... i had a yeast infection, got a bladder infection, took antibiotics... and got a new yeast infection!! !! at that point i cried. now they prescribe better antibiotics, but this was back in the day when they tossed penicillin at everything.

H2O2 or hydrogen peroxide is the bomb for thrush

make sure you buy 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide ONLY

I drink the stuff too..... and have great success with fungal infections, pimples, warts. Even my hair was less grey!!

It is broad spectrum, and will work on your whole system, just make a douche or drink it.

Cost to you =5-10cents!! !! !!
