This has been driving me mad for almost a year.

I don't actually have migraines but I've read that the aura ia part of a migraine and is also quite common among those with ASD.

So, I guess I technically do have a migraine but I have no pain. I can't SEE anything.

Right now the aura is so bad it's like giant hite splotches everywhere. I'm trying to do homework and the pages in my book just aren't readable.

I'm wearing sunglasses right now but that makes it harder to read a book.

Anything that can be done about this?

This web page may help

Thanks.

I see there it says aspirin can help. I didn't think any meds could help with the visual thing since it's not painful but I guess they do because it's associated with the blood vessels in the eye.

So I'll take an nsaid if it happens again but fortunately it's dying down now.

There are also preventative drug treatments for migraines.

I get the aura. When I was younger I would just get the blind splotches. Drove me crazy, especially while at school or when I needed to read. I cannot read while having the aura and driving would be life-threatening.

While I was still in college (and did not know the word migraine) I would power-down two full-suger cokes in a row...Sometime the blast of suger and caffiene would somehow change the "vascular-neuro-balance" (my term) in my brain and the aura would dissipate. Sometime sex would make the aura go away.

For me asprin never helped, but 400 mg Ibuprophen (advil) taken at the onset of the aura has been a godsend. It took me years to figure this out because it was not until my mid-twenties I even knew the word migraine applied, since I did not have any pain. However it IS a migraine even if there is not pain. Sometimes I vomit after having the aura.

I do not take any preventative drugs, they are VERY hard on the liver and I have had ulcers on and off. I would rather just deal with them as they come up and take fewer meds. I hope this helps.

I get these every single time I eat a snack food or restaurant food because it is all made with a lot of monosodium glutamate.
If I avoid that, the migraines and auras go almost entirely away.
edited to add:
(agree) that taking some aspirin immediately when you sense it coming - as well as a bit of caffeine - a cup of strong tea or a cup of coffee, and a nap really helps.

i get ocular migraines pretty much every day, and a migraine with pain several times a week. it helps me to take breaks from looking at a computer monitor, or do the 20/20/20 thing (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds).
