I'm 20 I want a hysterectomy (uterus and cervix removed only) to get rid of my periods forever, I hate them I dont want children I won't change my mind, if I have another period I will kill myself, I want my uterus out and I need to convince a doctor that my periods bother me that much, I've tried all the other options to get rid of periods they don't work 100% which isn't good enough and the implanon is bad for me I've been bleeding a whole month, help, someone tell me I'm justified in this, don't say I need to see a therapist or all that being a woman is great, I don't think it is and I'd rather be a little girl, periods make me depressed and anxious and nauseous

(cilcky)alternatives to hysterectomy
hysterectomy is a radical step, why not try a more conservative treatment first to see if it will work without permanently burning your bridges?

Doctors tend to not want to do something like that on someone so young and/or who hasn't had kids. I had one recently but it was for cancer.

All I can say is good luck in getting them to do something to stop your periods. I've heard that there are birth control pills that stop them completely now but I don't know how well they work.

I can completely sympathize with this; I've often wished that being 'spayed' was an option for human women as well as animals that don't want to reproduce. I think that folks are right, though, that you'll have a tough time convincing an Ob-Gyn when you're 20.

You can try a 'mirena' IUD implant; I had one, and it stopped my periods completely for five years. I didn't have a sex drive for that time either, though.

from what i've read, the OP is too young to have secondary dysmenorrhea, which tends to occur at least a decade after first menses, most often caused by endometriosis (growth of intrauterine tissue outside the uterus, within the pelvic region) or adenomyosis (growth of intrauterine tissue within the underlying musculature of the uterus) which tends towards surgical intervention. with primary dysmenorrhea [most common among younger women] the doc will often advise the patient that it will get better as one ages or gets pregnant. if the OP has gone through all these considerations with her present doc, she would be well-advised to get a second opinion from another provider.

Or a third, fourth, and fifth. It's not unusual for someone that young to go through half a dozen (or more) providers (and thereby to age a few years) to even get her tubes tied, much less a hysterectomy.

I am so, so sorry that you're going through this. I can't imagine how miserable it would be to have your period for an entire month. I was going to suggest birth control but I saw you've already tried that.

If it is strictly menorrhagia that you're concerned about, sometimes Ob-Gyns do d&c's - basically ablation of the lining of the uterus - to combat this. Basically it's the same procedure as an early-term abortion, except that there's no embryo to scrape out.

The only other issue that I can think of is that losing weight and/or lots of exercise tends to decreas the symptoms of *normal* periods, both in terms of pain and of blood loss. I don't know if it would help a peroid that lasts months at a time.

If you take birth control continuously, you can stop them. That's what I do. Seems a bit less extreme than having organs removed.

If they won't let you have the op yet, try taking some Diatom powder as a food supplement. It will not stop your periods but it will regulate them. Mine were starting to get so horrifically bad that I was beginning to think I had endometriosis. Ovulation was so painful and nauseating that I could not walk. Menstruation had me bed-ridden because the pain and diahorrea was so bad. Now I've been taking diatom powder, 95% of the menstruation pain is gone, and I now have zero ovulation pain, and no more menstrual diahorrea and hardly any nausea or headaches. Just a teeny bit of cramps but nowhere near as bad as they were before. It's called diatom powder / diatomaceous earth / DE. You can read about it on the Internet. If you do decide to take some, make sure you buy food grade.

^how strange. Is there a mechanism of action suggested for it? basically it's glass, in pieces small enough to make it a powder.

Hi OP, I can completely empathise with you about your horrible periods. I have endometriosis, but I've had relief from the pain, since my daughter was born. But the bleeding has gotten to the point that I'm severely anaemic and taking extra supplements. I've recently started to use red raspberry leaf tea and have found it to be very good. My last period was not disabling in the slightest (normally I'm frightened to go outdoors for a couple of days). Is it mainly pain that you're talking about or are they heavy or irregular? For irregular periods, I take agnus castus, which has regulated my cycle to 29-30 days, instead of 19-50 days. Pain has never been helped by anything other than ibuprofen.

I know you said you've tried everything, but have you been offered an endometrial ablation? I would have had this, were it not for the fact that I don't want my fertility gone. As you've said you want a hysterectomy and you don't want children, I would advise asking about this procedure, if you haven't already done so. A hysterectomy is a major operation and really will only be done if everything else has been exhausted or for conditions such as cancer.
