Just curious in light of the leg/pit shaving poll :)

Unlike the leg, which some people might have an issue with because it's visible, I do not understand why people would shave their genitalia unless they are very athletic. It doesn't seem logical. For example I wear bathing suits with the little skirt or a shorts-like bottom.

I shaved there once, only to get a bad nick that left me bleeding for about an hour. I don't even remember why I did so in the first place, as it is such a sensitive spot to shave. I left it alone ever since.

I'm feeling stupid. What does athleticism have to do with shaving genetalia? I know that elite endurance sport people (running, cykling, swimming etc) shave arms and legs to decrease wind resistance, but genetalia?

I mostly leave it natural but sometimes trim a little with scissors when it gets too long and bushy.

Logic has nothing to do with it. Its pure aesthetics. It just looks cleaner and neater and its certainly considerate of your partner when it comes to sex. Nobody likes hair in their teeth. :eew:

I've shaved there only once because the doctors had required it (I had to get surgery because of a fibroma that had to be removed in the pubic area).

I've never shaved after that but I only trim a little bit when I feel itchy.

My personal (and I hope very faulty) conclusion is that men who like womens genetalia to be bald, are really into pre-pubecant girls, but are aware of how inapropriate that is and opts for woman who will fill in for that longing/fantasy.

I think it's more considerate when men preffer the area not being shaved so their partner can avoid the irritation, pimples, itching, etc.

You could say the same thing for shaving legs. And what about women who prefer men without beards? Nobody assumes they are into young boys.
I think it is more of a fashion thing.

Embereyes, I meant that some people may wear briefer swimwear if they are competitive swimmers and divers, instead of trunks or bathing suits with skirts. Since a large amount of people's pubes stick out past the normal underpants line, people who are photographed while swimming may shave.

I also don't know if most people are physically coordinated enough to shave their genitalia. It seems difficult, and I'm not sure what waxing is. Again this is where physically gifted people would have an advantage.

Willard,
As I said, I hope it is my own faulty logic... However, if you look at how the fashion of bald privates came about, you'll find it started with pornography creating the illusion of 'legal' girls as much younger girls.

BanjoGirl,
I have tried shaving, I have tried waxing, I have tried creams, I have tried that 'sanding' thing... I have tried ending with different oils, aloe vera, rubbing alcohol (Let me tell you, you do not try rubbing alcohol on the private areas twice.... ), after shave balms and god knows what else. But no matter what, I always end up with irritation and pimples.

So, I try to apply the following 'rules of grooming' when I am in a relationship.
If my partner likes/wants any grooming from me in the pubic area (actually, any bodily hair removal), they have to return in kind. I shave my legs if they shave theirs. I shave the pubes if they shave theirs. Generally the partner realizes what a waste of time it is, and how annyoing it is to be more or less constantly itching and having razor bumps in private places.
I think that is a fair deal.

EsotericResearch,
About the beard-bit... I don't mind beards, but I do like them groomed. And as I wax/pluck my eyebrows, upper lip and chin, I think it's a fair exchange. I have never had a relationship with a man who thought it unfair, anyways.

I don't really care what other people do with their bodies, that is entirely up to them.
However, I will not do anything to my body to please a partner, unless they are willing to do the same. I'm not forcing anyone to be in an intimate relationship with me, and I am not pushing anyone to do something that they are not pushing me to do. If that comes off as unfair, that's fine with me. Like I said, nobody is forced to be intimate with me.

Maybe you'll be happy to know that this IS a hugely faulty assumption. Most men I know (including myself) who appreciated a "clean" area are also very interested in a woman's secondary sexual characteristics.
Their Boobz.

Pre-pubescent girls aren't really known for their big boobz, quite the opposite.
Edited to say: I guess Trollcatman beat me to this part.
But if this was true for genitalia then it would also be true of any man that liked women's armpits and or legs shaved. Pre-pubescent girls don't have hair THERE EITHER.

If a woman wants a man to shave his face does that mean she really wants to be a child molester? I'm kinda doubting it.

Evolutionarily speaking seeing the genitals is a big turn on for the opposite sex.

Hope I'm not intruding.

In my 20's I did a lot of surfing. The long pubic hair would wrap around my manhood, and the salt water makes pubes hang onto the flesh. So when I'd walk up the beach past the beautiful topless girls, it would pull the hairs and hurt a lot. Was difficult to walk upright and be nonchalant.

I finally got the bright idea of trimming the pubes. I've trimmed ever since.

I've had waxing on the bum and that was fantastic. I've had waxing on the front and that hurt like hell.

I stick with trimming :)
