Ok so I just had my IUD removed (it expired, I'm getting another at the end of the month). I just started my period last night after over 6 years without one (not uncommon with Mirena). The gyno said it's usually 2-6 weeks before the first menstrual cycle after having it out. Mine came after only 3 days!!

So physically I feel fine, but I'm having weird mood swings. Not like normal period moodiness, but like one second I'll be fine and then all the sudden I get this intense anxious/depressed feeling out of nowhere. I feel like screaming or slamming my head (common stim of mine when I feel anxious). This lasts only maybe 10 seconds or so, then I'm fine again. Happens every few hours. Wasn't having this before. Has anyone else had these kind of mood swings? They are really weird!

I've never had an IUD, although I'm hoping to get a Mirena fitted in a few weeks time. This does sound like it could be hormonal. Hopefully, once you get the new IUD fitted, everything will sort itself out. If you don't get any better in a day or so, maybe you should see your doctor and see if you can be prescribed something that will even out your hormones in the meantime - I don't even know if that is possible, but might be worth finding out.

I'm already on Seroquel and Depakote. Not sure what else they could do for me. It's not that bad that I want to medicate it, it's just very odd...

I had strange, short-lived mood swings about 6 months after my son was born. They were definitely hormonal, I could feel some kind of weird "shift" taking place in my body. I suppose being on a hormone release IUD for so long will have a similar effect. Hopefully, it'll not last long.

Other than this, I take it you were happy with Mirena? I'm getting mine for very heavy periods and as I'm in my mid-forties now, I might only need one because I'll probably have hit the menopause by the time it's ready to be removed.

I'm going to get one put in this summer after I have my baby because I don't want more kids and I won't have to worry about getting my period when my daughter starts solids. I can remember getting my first period when my son was eight months and there was no pain or nothing the first time.

Yes, very happy with it. I am like 90% sure I don't want more kids, but I'm giving myself another 5 years to be sure (I'm 27 and I have a 5 year old).

Im no doctor or a woman for that matter but my only guess could be the excess estrogen flow during those times which can lead to women being very emotional and moody, times where I dont know when to avoid them or comfort them hesitantly out of fear of being attacked or something of that nature.

I have never had an IUD but I have had extreme mood swings around my period, also my sensory issues and headaches are worse during my periods, it is likely hormonal, especially if you haven't had a period in a very long time.

Yes light and sound and smell are all bothering me badly right now (hard to look at the screen but I needed to ask this)-- I haven't had any bleeding since last night. It definitely looked like a period-amount of blood. I only had a little spotting overnight, then used a tampon in the morning but it came out clean and I haven't had any more bleeding. My period only started when my boyfriend and I had sex (no spotting before that, we have been using condoms since I got my IUD out Wednesday. Could it be something else? I had no initial spotting at all when it was removed.
