induced?

I ask because with my oldest son, he was a week overdue and needed to be induced.

I am now 39 weeks with my 2nd son and am worried the same will happen again.

I went to a breastfeeding class last night and I was reminded that oxytocin can induce labour.... There is a theory that those of us on the spectrum are lacking a bit in oxytocin and hence was wondering if there was a link? As in, not enough oxytocin in our systems to start labour on our own?

I am sure I am just thinking about it all too much lol

My labors had to be nudged along in various ways. Midwife did some natural things, and then the doc did administer not so natural things. Both babies were fine.

analyser23, be as serene as you can, despite the monumentality of it all. I remember those times, waiting....having the feeling of being so large that I could hardly move. In order to get my mind off of the upcoming labor and delivery I re-painted (very slowly) the nursery. The activity helped.

I went into labour naturally and my daughter was born eight days early.

Your baby's due date is really just a best guess. Two weeks either side is considered normal, and only about 5-8% of babies are actually born on their due date. In Scotland, where I live, labour wouldn't be induced until two weeks after the due date, unless there was another reason to induce.

I had spontaneous rupture of membranes at 35+5 with my son and he was born at 36 weeks. That is 4 weeks premature.

I had spontaneous rupture of membranes at 28+1 with my daughter and she was born at 30 weeks. That is 10 weeks premature.

În general kids dont need to be induced artificially, only because of them being some days late to that calculated birth-date. Just like when being outside, it is perfectly normal that they mature a bit differently. Around here, normally you only get artificially induced if measuring shows, that the head of the baby is getting to big for your waist-"hole". So before that happens, they induce, but not only because of it not being on time. ^^ (Maybe germans are like that, they tend to be clock Nazis. XD)

Both of mine were spontaneous births, and both were turbo babies- my longest being 7 hours including full dilation and drop down. I think it has much to do with genetics, as my mother, her sisters, and their mother were the same way.
