I am so excited because I finally ordered this book (the last copy on amazon.ca), "The Independent Woman's Handbook For Super Safe Living on the Autistic Spectrum" by Robyn Steward. She is on the spectrum herself and is from England, and was here in Nova Scotia, Canada back in October, my friends and I went to see her do a presentation at a hospital and I related to so much of what she said. It looked like a good book and can't wait to read it.
I am 27 and living with my mum, I had a part-time job (sometimes full-time hours) in a retail store (not the best fit) and was fine there for 3.5 years until changes in management. I am now attending a work readiness program and it's 27 weeks, the last 9 weeks is in a job placement (Volunteering) and my DREAM JOB is a local store where I buy all my soap and they also sell soy-based candles. I am taking Basic Office Skills but they're put you anywhere (I thought if it had to be office related, then our local autism group's office!) but I really want to MAKE the candles and soap, I love their products! I'm super excited and hopefully can do my voluntary term and hopefully it could lead to a part-time position!! !! Their website says they hire people with barriers to employment... I've applied (even got a phone call) and I am a very loyal customer but just don't know how to get a job there!
How does the place you want to work at deal with the problem of finding staff ? If there is no opening or vacent position then it will be close to impossible for the company to employ you.
My advice is to make sure you have an up to date CV, even if the application process is to fill in their form the CV will help as it will mean you have all the information you need in one place where you can get it at once.
Also find out as much as you can about any place you want to work at before you go for interview. While making soap might be your dream job, I would warn you that soap making is not a totally nice process. It is normally boiling up plant oil / fat with caustic soda to make the soap. Then the soap has to have additives added and then pressed into blocks for selling.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

They have been hiring before and posted on Job Bank and they want someone full-time, and I was definitely available. In January I started a full-time course, I am done mid-July, and in the last 9 weeks I have to do a voluntary placement, so I want to do it there. I want to find a paying job for 8-10 hours a week. I believe in their products and I am always promoting their Facebook page and how it has cleared my psoriasis, I've bought so much of it when they had deals in December and was giving it to other people to try, they've won awards. My mum has spoken to the owner, and he even said I probably know more about their products than he does.
