Since there have been topics on size I wanted to ask what size are you people? I'm a size 18/20, but got told today that I look like a size 14. Most of the time I wear a 3x in top and I wear a size 20 in jeans and I'm assuming I'm a size 20 in dress.

I am not sure.
Most of my pants are size 2.
I don't think I have any dresses, so I don't know the dress size.

I'm looking at that picture above, but I live in the Netherlands, so I'm not sure which one I should look at, but for now I'll look at the German one (because 34 is an XS in the Netherlands). When it comes to shirts, I usually order a 38. I used to fit in a 36 but unfortunately I don't anymore. When it comes trousers/jeans, I usually have to buy a 38 or a 40.

I'm a 7/8 in pants size and a 2/4 in dress sizes usually. I have really long legs, so I often have a hard time finding pants that fit unless the stores offer long sizes.

I wear a lot of different sizes. I have a spoon shape body type, with small shoulders and full hips, so I usually wear a larger size on bottom than on top.

Usually in anything that has a number size, I wear a 14 (US). But people tell me I look smaller than that. I think a lot of people misjudge body size.

I'm 5'7", so not short, but I have a high waist, long torso, and short arms and legs. Petite clothing often fits me better than regular, especially in a coat. I wear M, L, or PL in a coat.

In skirts I almost always wear a L, or PL, but sometimes I go up to an XL if the elastic is tight. I have some older skirts in M or PM that still fit, but they are from generously sized brands like Coldwater Creek.

I have shirts that range all the way from XS to XL. It just depends on how it is cut. Typically the longer a sleeve is, the bigger the size I need. If the material is knit or crochet, I usually need a smaller size.

In dresses, I only wear the pullover ones that are fitted on top and loose on bottom. I have dresses that are S, M, and PM because that's how they fit best in the shoulders.

I would wear a 14 in jeans or pants, but the rise is never long enough and they fit weird. I just don't bother with them anymore.

I don't buy many clothes that have number sizes. Seems like those are more form fitting and made for people who have a consistent size up and down their body. If I try on a 14 dress, it is baggy in the shoulders.

I wear an 18 in jeans.
L or XL in tops.
14 in dresses. I have tiny shoulders and wear open hip styles like dianthus.

Size 14/16 in pants, L/XL shirts and dresses and elastic-waisted pants, depending on brand/style/fabric (US.)

I hate shopping for clothes. It seems even if the size is right, it just doesn't "fall" right. I can never wear anything currently fashionable because it just doesn't look right on me. I wear a knit shirt and jeans almost every day, and that is about the only thing that looks good on me. I can wear a dress or a skirt well, but I just don't feel comfortable in them.

I am on the tall side, 5'8". I have a long torso. My shoulders are a bit broad. I think I have a bit of a boxy shape, sort of an athletic build, maybe the "column" shape I have seen online recently? Even though I am overweight by enough for the doctor to mildly get on my case, everything is evenly distributed. I am generally the right shape, but no part of me is particularly exaggerated. I don't really have anything to show off, nor anything to try to hide. But, for some reason, clothes don't fall right. I think it might help if my feminine shape was more distinct?

If only I liked exercising! My muscles respond very quickly to working out, but I don't do enough to lose the extra weight.

I wear a size 12 US in women's jeans and dresses. Sometimes I can wear dresses in a size 10, but it depends on the kind of dress. I wear a size L in shirts. I also still shop in the junior's department, and I wear a size 13 or XL.

People tend to think I'm thinner than I actually am for some reason. I wonder if it's how my body distributes fat.

Do any of you have trouble wearing certain blouses and jackets without them being too tight in the back? No matter what size I get, I can never wear a jacket or a blouse that isn't made out of some sort of stretchy/cotton-like material. It fits everywhere else except for the upper part of my back, so if I ever had to reach for something, it would pull on my sleeves and it would make them feel tight.

I also have trouble wearing certain kinds of skirts because of my high waist. Pencil skirts tend to be too big in the waist, too small in the hips, and my hips aren't where the hips are in the skirt. Some miniskirts where they're supposed to be at your waist don't look like skirts when I wear them.

This is why I'm picky when it comes to clothes. A lot of clothes just aren't made for my body type. :(

I'm the same height as you, and clothes don't fall right on me either. I usually have to find clothes that emphasize my waist and not on my "love handles" and "hip dip." Shirts that show off my collarbone/upper chest region tend to look good on me too.

Same here, and I'm not sure why. People still tell me that I look "small" and it makes no sense. People also somehow mistake me for being shorter than I am.

Yes!! I have the same problem with jackets and blouses. And when I get a long-sleeved shirt or sweater, I usually have to go up a size or two to be comfortable.

I have a similar problem with most pencil skirts. Depends on how it is cut. I have one that fits well. But most of the time they fit really weird. I have a high waist and a long rise. I've never been able to wear a short skirt or mini skirt, it would just ride up.

My closet says I'm mostly a 2, 4, and 6. Occasionally I'm even a 0. And that's without losing or gaining any weight. Those are US sizes. If it comes in S, M, L, XL, then I'm usually an S.

I also have the same problem you mentioned with button-down shirts. I also cannot button sleeves because I have a large bone structure. It is not simply a matter of being overweight because I have had this problem ever since I was a kid, when I was just right.

My arms are very long and almost every button-down sleeved shirt is not long enough. I can't wear them, it's that bad. I have to opt for three-quarter length sleeves or short sleeves/sleeveless. I only wear long sleeves in a knit or other stretchy fabric because I can "hitch them up" on my arms.

A long time ago, I got a little instruction in the "Color Me Beautiful" color/size theory. I need to go back and revisit it - it was helpful. I learned that all the "top" parts of me are long. I have a long torso. My upper arms are disproportionately long to my forearms, and my thighs are disproportionately long to my calves. Even though I have long legs overall, I look really, really stupid in shorter skirts because they make my legs look stubby. I cannot wear any skirt/dress shorter than tea length. I also look horrible in shirts that are too short because they won't come down to my waist and make me look cutoff. I also cannot stand when there is any gap at all between my shirt and my pants. It could be alright when I am standing or sitting, but if I bend over or reach for something and it causes a gap, I can't deal with it. I feel exposed, and I don't like the draft on my skin.

The problem is that even though I know all this, that doesn't mean that I can find clothes that are right! I have to go with clothes that fit right, even though none of them have the "right colors" for me. It is also EXTREMELY hard to find shirts that are long enough. And don't even get me going looking for shoes!! ! I absolutely hate shopping for stuff to wear.

The best option I have for finding the right clothes is buying through a catalog/online retailers. BUT that means I would have to pay a lot more and have to deal with the issue of shipping them back if they don't fit right, etc. I don't really have the money to go that route. I always try to local thrift shop first since it is such a pain to find good clothes anyways. I have had good success finding casual shirts there, but not so much success finding jeans/pants.

I am the same way! I have a long torso too, so I really hate the shorter shirt fashion trends. The back gap is the worst in the winter when it's cold and it feels like your core is freezing. I tend to layer longer things under shirts and hope no one notices they totally don't match. xD

I honestly don't understand US clothing sizes. At all. Sometimes I'm an XS, sometimes I'm a S, sometimes I'm a M, occasionally I end up having to get a L. Numbers range just as crazy. I can't fathom it. But, I got lucky, I'm tall (okay, 5'7 isn't super tall) and built like a stick so the clothing other people can't usually wear, I can, and so I find it in all the bargain bins. =D I love bargain bins.

Those of you that have fitting issues, have you ever gone to a tailor? I've been considering that now that I'm starting to develop a professional wardrobe, but Iunno. It seems expensive compared to just getting lucky in a bargain bin. I'm really cheap
