Do any of you ladies have suggestions for comfortable bras? Even if I buy them in larger sizes, I can't handle the constriction on my back and top of my rib cage. I can't really go to work without one since I teach high school boys, they'd be sure to notice. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would recommend the La Isla brand -- you can buy them on Amazon. I cannot stand underwires and need full coverage. I find this brand very comfortable and non-aggravating.

Hope this helps !

These two are good.

(By far the most comfortable bra I have ever worn - however it provides only basic support - may not look nice under all garments. It is made for maternity, but I went with medium for 36DD and it works fine.)

(Very versatile, should look nice under most garments unless you are wearing a plunge neck. This offers really good support at least up to a DD without underwire. You should be able to find this style in U.S. stores as well.)

Is it just the constriction bothering you, or do you have other sensory issues too? Like scratchy fabrics or digging elastic?

Constriction can be helped by spreading the pressure over a larger area. Longlines should help. If you've got a high tummy, the bottom will flip up unless you get one with boning. That may dig.

There are other options that cover your whole torso like basques, torsolettes and bra camisoles. Not the shelf camis you see in nearly every store, but an actual bra made into a cami.

I'm wearing this one right now. Link It's a bit...erotic, but the fabric is super soft and it doesn't squeeze. I sister-sized up to make room for my pear hips. I know that brand makes a couple other camis that are more tame, and there are tons of other styles and brands out there. (Depending on your bra size, of course)

Thank you ladies for your suggestions. I looked at the last suggested link, the price is certainly right to give it a try. I definitely have the sensory issues going. If the fabric has any rough spots, it will bother me to no end. And I can't stand when a bra or cami strap slips over my shoulder. I have to reach in through the neck of my shirt and pull it up, which is awkward to do in public.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but with bras that hook in the back, somehow I manage to move in such a position that the hooks come undone. It's not like I'm doing aerobics or something. I can just be sitting at a desk or table and this will happen. Perhaps I should name the girls "Houdini?" I will feel it immediately when it happens because I feel everything. Then I will quickly have to excuse myself and go to the bathroom to rehook it. This has happened so often that I have put a safety pin in the back along with the hooks and I just take the bra on and off over my head because it's impossible for me to place the safety pin in while I am hooking the bra behind my back.

I ordered a bandeau type bra but not that brand name. It arrived today and I have been wearing it all evening with no complaints. There are no straps, the material is soft and super stretchy so it's not constricting. The girls are probably not lifted up as high as they should be, but what the heck? I'm comfortable and nothing is showing through my shirt.

Do any of you ladies remember wearing girdles? I was twelve years old, 100 pounds, and a bridesmaid at my brother's wedding. My mom made me wear a girdle. That was one of the worst nights of my life, I was in so much pain! My mom died when I was 33, I am 63 now. I've gained a lot of weight in the last three decades. My mom would probably be abhorred to see how I let my muffin top hang out.

I always had so much trouble finding bras & sport bras, Playtexs works for me.
