Hi, if any of you here are from the Miami/South Fl area, the University of Miami's Center for Autism & Related Disabilities is trying to get a women's Asperger's group started. If anyone is interested please email Diane Adreon at [email protected].

they are having trouble finding enough gals to form a group so if you are interested please check it out!

anyway to not make this thread too spammy, do any of you go to any type of Asperger's support group or have been to one in the past & does it help you out? I have been to a few but they usually are all guys only & I never feel comfortable...they are trying to get a female group going & Id like to try that see if it works out better for me...

Yeah they have a group where I live. Not all female though. But either way I didn't find it enjoyable as I didn't relate to the majority of AS. The group is about 50/50 male to female. But the guys just sit there, so its barely like they are even in the room. I don't like how low spectrum were also included as I feel they should not be included in the same group with Aspergers people. I quit going to the meetings as I found nothing supportive about the group and I notice I function at a much lower level when surrounded by other autistics.

am went to one [and had support there] for a few weeks [it was once a week],as the pysch. tried to get am to go being the only place of that type around at the time, but am could not cope,it was very unstructured with no routine to anything and am either was rocking there all the time,or meltdowning.
it was mainly for people who were very high functioning, were verbally able and did not have any support needs.
the other girls there kept forcing eye contact at am which hurt and screeching to each other,am had thought they were classic stereotype NTs.
the boys were very nice, and tried to interact with am,but as am was worse then,it did not last long and am was avoided, even the staff [who was NT] avoided am.

am currently going through the slow joining process of another NAS [UK national autistic society] centre, which is different to the other one,in that it's a proper day centre with structured routines and has a lot more things to do,and unlike the other one,it is for autists and aspergans who are not very high functioning.
