Ive been wondering lately-Why is it that when men do not restrain their sexual impulses(and just to be clear I am NOT talking about sexual assault)-such as the impulse to catcall or make sexual comments/gestures when they find a woman attractive its considered sexism. I mean, its certainly RUDE and Inconsiderate of the womans feelings but I dont see how its degrading to her entire gender. If a woman did that to me I wouldnt regard it as Sexism-rather as obnoxious, vulgar, and grossly impolite.

It turns me into a sex object. It's dehumanizing because it's not how I want to be perceived.

I think men are generally less threatened because it doesn't affect their ability to participate in society the way it does for women. After all, sex "objects" are things, not people you hang out with or work with. And things don't need to be included in society.

Plus it's tiring.

Being obnoxious, vulgar, and grossly impolite to a guy you don't know will probably get you into a fist fight. Why is ok to be that way to women?
Maybe if two of the biggest, ugliest, most disgusting women you ever saw, start chasing you around making sexual comments/gestures and catcalls, you would understand why it is unpleasant.

Ive never really understood the whole concept of "sex objects". Im not questioning that treating women that way is something that women really DONT appreciate. But what I dont understand is how it is an attack on their gender as a whole, or somehow insulting them for their gender as opposed to just being obnoxious, inconsiderate, and even threatning to them as an individual..... :?

Sexual harassment is considered discrimination against women because it's most often done by men to women, but it can also be done by women to women, by women to men, and by men to men. Legally, it's considered under the heading of "discrimination on the basis of sex", because that's how it started out, but at some point they may just call it harassment, period, since more and more human rights cases are shifting in the direction of "attack on dignity as a human being", rather than "as a member of a vulnerable demographic group".

Does that answer that question?

Question... if a big fat ugly gay man gave you the eye and comments and whistles... how would you feel about it? How does it make it any different with women?

I'd wanna Flatten his ass and would threaten him. But I wouldnt think that he's being sexist or accuse him of such.

Disrespecting women is sexist. You might not think it's disrespecting if a car load of complete idiots whistle at you to look cool in front of their mates, but several people do.

I think males and females think differently.

I love getting sexual harrasment by woman, any woman :D Well only some I find a bit scary!

But I think woman find that sort of thing maybe more threatning??? They love when you say nice polite comments about their looks though.

If you disrespect someone from another group-that person might assume that you're treating them badly because of the group they belong to but thats not necessarily true. You see, I UNDERSTAND why its unpleasant for women to be whistled at, stared at, and commented on but I dont see it as an attack on their gender as much as I see it as rude, obnoxious behaviour on the part of the guy(s).What Im also trying to say is that guys who do it are more often than not acting on their IMPULSE rather than deliberately doing something to offend women.

Good. As if I didnt already KNOW that. Go troll on some other thread why dont'cha cuz this BS is really getting old. :x
BTW, like I said: I understand perfectly well WHY women dont Like it so theres no need to f*****g explain that A-GAIN.
But the ONLY explanation of why its sexist clear shows me that such a claim is based on rhetoric that person heard before and hasnt really thought it through well enough to explain.Aridarr-you really dont have a f*****g clue about what Im talking about which is why you wiped your ass on this board on the last page and it read: "thats all you need to know" .
