I visited my gynecologist today, because I had a very bad vaginal infection. She told me to never ever use Vagisil lotion or another anti-itching vaginal product that contains Benzocaine in it. She said that those products have caused other patients of hers to get chemical burns on their vaginas. She said sh e wants to see that benzocaine products for vaginal itching are taken off the market, but she can't really say anything cause the companies may sue her.

So I really want to make sure you all know, if you have a vaginal infection, first thing to do is go to your gynecologist and get a prescription. If you can't do that use the wipes that do not contain Benzocaine, almost all the lotions do contain Benzocaine. I know that it sucks when you have a vaginal infection, and you'll try almost anything for relief, but Vagisil lotion and lotions with Benzocaine in it only make the problem worse.

Same often goes for OTC yeast infection treatments. They burn like a mother!

I'll add 'warming' or 'tingling' condoms to that list... omg oooooow.

Basically I think you should just keep everything 'gooey' or 'tabletty' outta there if you can help it! Most of it seems painful.

Well when I said yeast infection lotions with Benzocaine in it, I did mean OTC yeast infection treatments. Most of the ones without a well known brand name like Vagisil, have the same ingredients as Vagisil Maximum Strength lotion. 20% Benzocaine and 10% hydrochloride something.

I called the gynecologist again about the discomfort, they said OTC hydrocortisone based products are okay to use. Try Cortisone 10 Creame with Aloe.

I missed when I posted this that there was an area for women's discussion. So if the mod would be kind enough to move this post there, would you please do so?

If anyone is still playing attention to this thread, I was wondering can having a vaginal infection cause you to have like PMS sort of symptoms. Cause I read something awhile ago that was sweet, but instead of being like "Awww..that's sweet" I was like "THAT'S SO SWEET, WAAAAAAAHHH!" Being emotional sucks.

You sure it's not just normal PMS? Try some Evening Primrose Oil... balancer of women the world over. ;)

I'm sure because I take a birth control pill continuously. It could just be the vaginal infection put my hormones out of whack like a period would. I'll look into that primrose oil.

The pill can lead to pretty severe PMS like symptoms. I know - it made me suicidal within three weeks of starting it, thank God I figured out what was wrong and got myself off it in time before I did something stupid! :(

you should never using anything on your body without testing it in a small amount to make sure you aren't allergic first
