Aren't our words but a reflection of our inner-self transposed over the very being that others witness?

Isn't the individual with autism seen as but a social outlier, a freak of language and communication who'll never correspond to its specie's perpetual need and desire to reinstate the status quo time after time until we're all but the same outline, drawn with the same lavish and liquid language, drooling from the minds of our masters?

Hence, to be seen as something other than a joke to the invisible status that is punched--purveyed to us since birth, we need to speak in the utmost perfection and pedantry to increase our self-esteem in the eyes of those who look down upon us, and those who do look down upon us include ... us.

Daniel, me wants to be seen as someone who can do something as well as people without this disorder, this disorder that's marked with communicative errors; it's my heel, and by fictional god, I'm not letting Paris hit it, as he's a goddamned pansy.

I may not be the greatest linguist when I don't have a voice, but when I have a voice, I'll do my best to better what I supposedly can't do, kinda like Paris.

And your post is STILL perfectly spelled with proper grammar, as far as I could tell.

Yeah, i've never had problems with spelling and such, so why pretend i do. it's interesting hearing all the answers though, can someone maybe send a link to the previous discussion/s on this subject, i'd love to find out more.
Thanks in advance

Ok this isn't some big existential question, although that too would be nice discussing with you fellow aspies one of these days, but i've just been browsing through this forum and have found that ALL the posts i've been through are typed out using VERY correct english spelling, grammar and syntax (in fact, i don't think i've seen one spelling mistake on this site, and believe me, I notice these things). Now, one of you smartarses is bound to say that this is because the vast majority of members are actually anglophones and were born as such, 'bt browse thru ani otha forum n u'll find tht ther'll alwys be sum1 typin lyk ths'. Seriously, this has freaked me out slightly, I wonder why it is?

What make hypocrisy?

It's not hypocisy, it's me trying to find out more about myself and fellow aspies and this common trait we seem to have. I'm just looking for an explanation for it, not trying to insult of demean anyone for being so 'precise and pedantic'.

I think you lost your virginity on this post... heh... "of" instead of "or". ;)

As to being pretentious elitists, fnord doesn't speak for all of us...

As to people complaining about NTs -- duh. You can't look at a group who 80% of their population experience ongoing depression as a result of social hardships and not expect them to vent their frustrations about the people with whom they experienced those hardships.

Well, not everyone. I'm certainly not very smart, don't care about grammar, don't even know how to use spell-check and I have the least amount of class out of anyone here.
See? There's a place for us all in this world.

Miles, we may not have gotten along before, but I am beginning to see that you have more going for you than you claim, or that I had originally thought. Never sell yourself short, because there are a lot of "Richards" in the world just waiting to help you bring yourself down.

What makes the difference is attitude, dude!

In my case, I love language and am really good at grammar and spelling. I have studied 3 other languages, have degrees in two of them, know a bit of a 4th and am about to embark on an individualized study of ancient Latin. I am a Spanish teacher and have found that many of my colleagues are on the spectrum.

My interest in language goes back to not being able to communicate confidently and accurately with anyone. That was my heart's desire from as far back as I can remember. So I studied language. I have a great memory, am good at rules and can diagram sentences like crazy. I wasn't aware until recently that there is a whole psychological aspect to communicating that I should have studied. Sheesh!

Well for me, I have an issue with poor grammar, punctuation and spelling when I write anything. Now my speech . . . well, that's another thing entirely.

I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes here and there, but since people put the effort in to write properly it appears otherwise.

Spelling is easy as Firefox has spell check as does MS Word (if you type your posts there and transfer), but if I am in doubt to www.m-w.com I go (plus I have a dictionary on my phone and a small pocket one in my messenger bag).

Many moons ago, when I actually used Myspace, I was accused of trying to be better than everyone else because I wrote my posts with proper punctuation, grammar and spelling.

One problem.

It doesn't reflect having Asperger Syndrome, it is trait of having dyslexia which is common with people who have Asperger Syndrome.

People with high intelligence are known with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning disability (doesn't mean you can't learn "misconception" - still can learn) but it does impaired spelling and grammar as well as reading. It can be mild to severe.

I don't know why, but I like it. I have a hard time understanding when people type in Netspeak or just poorly. A few to several mistakes is okay, but something like the "example" you have is hard to read.

I'm also a writer. I use fairly decent grammar, punctuation, and spelling even in text messaging. It just makes sense to me.

Maybe it's because aspies often pay attention to detail?

That's a lie! I have Asperger's, and I never pay attention to detail!

There are other boards that are just as grammatically correct as this place.

There are plenty of errors to be found in this website. After I make a post, I usually proofread it and edit if I need to. Of course that is built into my nature---I taught English for nineteen years on the high school level, and I have also taught English on the university level. Now, I am a gifted intervention specialist at the high school. I am sure I have some errors out there. Afterall, these posts aren't meant to be formal.

i know ho to spell perfectly but make countless typo errors - so there are spelling mistakes in my posts.

HOwever, there is a greater tendency for more correct speech than funky text talk. (thank goodness. i hate that stuff. it just makes me feel sick to even look at it...which is probably an age thing, as language needs to change and evolve...that is the wonderful thing about it. this may well be the only area where i am an old fashioned girl.)
