I deny it at times, but I suppose, I have to admit I am a lot like a child.

Well, ASDs are a developmental disorder. The development of some parts of me stopped or has never begun, I think.

Socially, I see these 6-year-olds and they're far better at it than I could possibly ever get. They're into it intuitively and acting as if it's simple and natural to connect with others. At the same time, I have developed great social skills and had a lot of success.

Yet seeing these kids, I know I'm an alien.

I will have lots of other abilities that they will probably not develop but that I can use to compensate and to find a different way of socialising. But I'll never develop this particular ability that they have.

Compared to that, I feel timeless because I run by a different time. And feeling timeless makes me feel like a child in comparison to other people. Because a lack of ability is commonly perceived as a state that children exhibit due to their inexperience.

superbrain meets tomboy Smiley. (for those of you who are not Australian , Smiley was a larrikin boy rascal character in the SMiley films here in my country. Smiley was naughty, irreverent, into fairness and social justice. loved the bush, tore around the place and was generally pretty cool. )

there is no "inner" about my child side.
all out there.

Whenever I stim, my older NT sister or my mom or both tell me off for acting like a small child.
When provoked into a fight by my older NT sister, she once told me that I act "worse than a child." It hurt. Writing this does make me want to stim.

I am commonly mistaken for a high school freshman.
Please explain how a 15-year-old has facial hair and goes to community college.

There are parts of me that are so much so like a child that it actually does some damage to me mentally.... I am lonely and need to meet people, but some of the areas I am very childlike in make this even harder for me than most people. And a 5 yold, as fun as they can be at times, doesn't cut it for my social interaction.

I am 44 years old, and I feel more like my avatar picture which was me when I was a kid. I am a teacher, church organist, husband, and father of two sons---but I probably seem like a kid to many. Rather than doing the things most of the grown-up adult males do, I still play with HO scale model railroads. I just ordered 8 HO scale circus tents for it. I think I have the interest of my sons on the circus model---and we will be filling the tents with HO scale circus acts. In my classroom at school I have a model of a roller coaster I have been working on. I have other hobbies---some more adult like, and some more childlike. But all in all, I still feel like a youngster. And I still daydream as much as I ever have.

I feel that way as well. Although, I will say it may reflect looking back over my life and realizing the "why" to many events. A lot of things make sense now.

My wife tells me all the time I need to grow up and to "be a man" :( but I think I'm just enjoying life and having fun.

My parents told me so many times as a kid to tell that to the people oppressing me... It felt weird, and I didn't like it, plus they just came down harder.

Yes, definitely. Though, I don't just feel like a child, in a lot of ways, I am more like a kid than an adult. I did very childish things up until the age of 16 (like play with dolls ). I still have the life experience level of a child, except for the fact that I just started college. I feel like a child whenever I'm around people my own age (or even any age, actually). It's as if they exist in a different dimension than I do. I can sometimes tell that the things I'm saying or doing are coming off as very childish to people. It's part of the reason I feel so uncomfortable around them.

Outer child topic

This is an interesting concept SG. I wonder if it is the unconscious reason I had children.

Now they are older than me!
