I went to see a psychologist over five years ago. Last year I saw a copy of my records, and the psychologist wrote that I said I was "dumb". I didn't say that I was dumb, I said that I am not a genius, which I believe to be a true statement.

Why did she "lie"?

unfortunately psychologists dont have consciences(at least most dont). They take words for how you say them, not what you say. They analyze how you describe yourself and put it into thier own words as to what they feel you really meant.

Thats not to say there arent good ones. There are, they're just too few and far between. They think because they went to school and got a degree that they're god and thier opinion is infalable(always correct). They judge the parts of the machine, not the machine as a whole.

Hell, I cant even get all my records from the military to see what they wrote about me. They refused them to me, even though I was supposed to recieve ALL of my records upon exit from the service.

Psychologists dont care about your feelings, only your budget.

In my experience, not everyone appreciates literal language and read between lines even when we are communicating only within them (the lines).

Being dumb may refer to you being mute if not stupid.

Occam's Razor says because she is a psychologist, hence her problem. Lab Pet EARNED the title The Therapist Slayer....

I've never read/heard that one before but you never know what they write, that is the psych's that are actually literate.
Psych's are a slot machine......or roulette.

Honestly, they don't know. When they don't know they just make it up as they go along. Or they watch inane episodes of Dr. Phil and copy.

But there are better psychs, for certain. She's not it.

I would still expect that "Dumb" in this case refers to being "mute" not stupid, especially if they are trained within the UK where dumb doesnt mean stupid outside of slang.

Oh wait!! !

Must add my venture with ex-psych, 'Dean-the-Virgo.' He asked me (direct quote), "Do you see dead people?"

Not kidding. Hence, 'ex' psych. That and for multitudes of other reasons. For starters, that he would come to appointments :hic:

That's a no no, psych. Bad psych. Bad.

I'm thinking that she saw your quote as having low self esteem and took it as you were demeaning yourself.

Some think what we say is how others would say them. What you said was litterally what you meant. You meant, "not a genius" not how others might say that and mean dumb. I've heard people say they aren't smart or a genius when they mean they think they are dumb. And some people may use "smart" and "genius" very closely.

I like your topics because often there's this insecurity. At times you have a sense of humor about it, tho. I chose the first answer. I don't think I should have voted because the answer I would have chosen wasn't a choice. What I think might have happened is the psychologist was a little careless and made a mistake. Without thinking she substituted the word "dumb" for the words "not a genius". It is a little odd because dumb implies not thinking while not being a genius has more to do with lower IQ test scores or whatever.

The psychologist didn't know how to spell genius?

I think she was just being a b!tch. She wanted you to think that she thought you were dumb by pretending to take what you said that way. A lie.
