I just have to brag, as us Aspies so rarley do, that I got to see this movie first showing in the world at the Austin Texas - Alamo Drafthouse. Even got to see Nimoy firsthand. Details here: http://blog.originalalamo.com/2009/04/0 ... mar-alamo/

I loved the trick they played on us with a free showing of Star Trek 2.

It has been a highlight of my mostly not happy life. It came at a time when I'm having some extremely unhappy events. Getting a chance to see that movie and such they way it played out was truly FUN! One of those moments that spread into a couple days.

BTW, I highly recommend the movie. Fun is the world, what they did with the plot and new and old. My bragging isn't intended to bring you down, maybe you can think positive of the fun I had when you go see the movie.

Yes, I think Vulcans could be seen as autistic.

Commander Data is a character who could appeal to autistic people also.

I think they are. Especially the concept of how they are very emotional on the inside and spend their entire childhood learning how to control emotions.

I voted no because as a race they chose to be how they are, they are not born as they are, but are taught to embrace logic and suppress their emotions.

Data, on the other hand, is a somewhat good example of an Aspie in Trek.

However I'm surprised Lt. Barklay isn't mentioned when Trek and Aspergers are brought up. He has alot of traits that could be considered Aspie-like.

Hmmm. Ok if we don't all agree that Vulcans are autistic, I was wandering if anyone else noticed that in almost all the star trek series there's a story arc around a couple of characters who can be scene as ASD (or at least representative of aspies) becoming more socialable and normal. I'm specifically referring to:

TOS: spock
TNG: Data, Lt Barclay
DSN: never followed but perhaps someone could suggest one
VOY: The Doctor, 7 of nine
Enterprise: T'Pol

Half vulcan's are not human, so can not be entirely cast in the same psycological light. Albeit from the perspective of a brain disorder.

That said... I"VE ALREADY GOT MY PREMIER TICKETS. Just deciding what costume to wear.
I'm all excited, just started re-watching my OS dvd's.

Here photo's from last premier I went to:

Hmm... on second though... maybe sans costume would be best :) especially as it isn't midnight screening full of other dorks.

Maybe Odo, he proved to be a great Security Chief, but he was socially awkward at times.

Sorry must disagree. They are capable of reproducing with humans to produce viable (ie. fertile) offspring ergo they are a race not a species
