Yeah. I think everyone has been prescribed it for general anxiety and/or depression at some time or another.

For OCD and panic disorder in my case. Seemed to help the latter quite well, and kinda helped the first (OCD is quite treatment refractory).

No side-effects or anything in my case.

Zoloft was its first trade name.

This is the fist drug i was put on for my depression (supposedly used by some psychiatrists to kinda baseline patient reactions). I was put on a half dosage for a week, then full the week after. However, on week 3, i started getting what could be a panic attack, but it felt like, "Ok, im awake . . . WHAT DO I NEED TO DO DAMMIT!?!?!" Not a feeling i want again, of that I assure you.

I've been on it since June, for anxiety and OCD symptoms. I don't think it's helping that much, but doc wants to keep me on it for another few months, to see if it eventually kicks in. I haven't had any side effects, except for really bad nausea the first night I took it, since I took it on an empty stomach.

Yeah, I was on it for a couple of years in the early 90s dor depression. It worked a little, but not well enough - I've found the supposedly outmoded amitriptyline to be much more effective.

Ugh, they gave me that for depression when I was 16. But it only made the depression worse, and I was in it for months, and eventually turned psychotic. It was pure hell, the worst period of my life. I had only met the doctor once when she gave it to me, and she didn't know much about me or my situation at all. :(

It's the best antidepressant I've taken, working with just one dose. (Normally, antidepressants require 3 weeks to become noticeable.) The funny thing about these drugs is that nobody knows how they really work. I did read of a study using EEGs that was able to predict antidepressant effectiveness. I don't see this becoming standard practice, except for people at imminent risk of suicide.

They switched my teen to this from Prozac. It needed to be adjusted several times, but is working really well now for his depression.
He'd been off for a while, but feels so much better on. Wish he didn't need it but it works for him.
