I'm not exactly sure this is what you're looking for, but...

For a long time I thought I didn't "like" anything (in relation to something I could do for a job). But I think I just didn't know of what jobs are out there (I still don't know all of them), so I would think "there probably aren't jobs in that" and brush off all the activities I enjoy until my list was empty. I now realize I like reading, writing (about things, not fiction), science, and animals. And I'm knowledgeable in/good at those things. Now that I'm learning more about what careers are out there, I'm able to apply my interests to those careers. Try to focus on stuff or activities you like (write them down if you need to-I like doing bubble charts for that) and don't worry about careers as you identify what you like/enjoy.

For me, I've always known that I love animals and enjoy being around them. I think I might like to be an animal behaviorist. I didn't know that was even a career until a couple years ago or so. If you're open minded, you should be able to find a job that involves your interests.

I feel guilty now because I enjoy my life almost 100% of the time at the moment. Don't worry it won't last. I don't have a job right now.

I did do what I loved as a job for a while, and it made me hate it. I did sound engineering for a small studio, and it was the most stressful thing ever. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to get a career that is also your hobby, just my personal experience.

My advice to you Lecks, is to simply try a bunch of stuff out, and see what you like or can at least put up with. Try volunteering and the like. Get experimental.

I agree wholeheartedly with Moog here. If you really are passionate about something, making a job out of it is really difficult because you will have to compromise and do things you'd really rather not do for the sake of making money. Some people can do it quite successfully, but I personally am glad that I have another option.

Pensieve, not everyone hates their job. Many, possibly most, but not everyone. I enjoy working because I can get passionate about it, but I can also leave work at work (usually, at least).

Lecks, if you are having difficulty finding anything enjoyable at all, do you think you might be suffering from depression? I only ask because that often seems to happen, and you have to work on that first before anything becomes pleasurable.

Reach harder? Or look for something more attainable that you also like.

The problem isn't so much finding something I enjoy (I actually enjoy my job at the animal shelter) as being able to tolerate the social and time-pressure aspects well enough to enjoy doing the work. If I could take breaks to zone out and stim more often, and if I could never talk to anyone at work, I'd do just fine!

If only I could figure this out it'd be like applying the golden ratio to my life.

yes. one of my hardest things to do, obviously i have a deep found love for mountains and cold weather but how can i turn that into employment? ive often thought about being a forest ranger but you need a DL for that and i still dont got one. oh well looks like i will continue to be unemployed. it certainly is a good thing being so doesnt all that bother me. i wonder if it would bother a potential girlfriend? questions, questions, questions
