Well, everyone's sensory things are different. Some prefer loose clothes, some hate them. The latter option describes me. I'd hate walking around in a costume every day.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Yea, it is all about sensory needs!!

I dont like collars because they often poke up and tickle my chin, or round my neck because of being too loose

A nice soft scarf is good in winter... Need one made with the same material as my costume :D

Flaggy, I can see why you'd get annoyed.

I shared an apartment with a very strange girl who hated the colour pink, I happen to like pink and pastel colours and every time she saw even a tiny bit of pink on my clothes she'd give out to me for about an hour and a half. I know it's not exactly the same but I have an idea of how you feel from my experience.

Is it possible to find clothes like your lady liberty outfits but in different colours, then you'd possibly have comfortable clothes for fancy dinners. Are the outfits hard to clean?

I have a very open mind, for people, and things, that are different. I'm obsessed, with The Kinks, and Mick Avory, is my favourite member. I carry my drum sticks, in a hand bag, where ever I go, except for my parents place. I also dress somewhat like they did, in the 60s, in particular, Mick.

I'm reminded of Seinfeld, where George Castanza's dad had a lawyer who always wore a cape. George's mom stated bluntly that she thought it looked ridiculous. At the end of the episode, the lawyer, in superhero fashion (cape and all), saves Jerry's ex girlfriend from jumping off a roof.
Flaggy, we need more people like you and Castanza's lawyer.

I just want to be a accepted for who i am + my alternative style.. I know some might think its ridiculus to wear my statue of liberty costume to the supermarket etc, but I feel good in it, and it makes me happy...

I keep having to feel the never ending force of society trying to push me in their direction though, just because it makes them feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to be seen next to me.... I see that as being their problem, not mine!

Cockney rebel, I used to carry my drumsticks around when I was younger- I even got on BBC news - walking past one of their cameras with my sticks in my hand lol

Lost alien- If she hated pink, then she should have just stuck to not wearing it herself or having it in her area of the house.. she had no right to tell you what to wear

I have no issue with other people wearing what they want to wear, I am just a non-conformist.. and I refuse to just conform with other people when I don't see a reason to... As I said in an earlier posting, i've no problem not wearing my liberty stuff to work, or to a special dinner or something.. But if I want to wear it to the supermarket, or shops, or out to dinner in a pub or to tenpin bowling, then I will!

Kraichgauer - (copied and pasted - i wasnt even going to attempt spelling that one lol)
I am glad to have your support on this too :)

I think i must just have a more open broad mind, to alternative things, and difference in general, than most.. people seem to generally want to stick together and be the same, maybe they are too embarrassed of themselves to try anything out of the ordinary, I dont know.. i've not been able to work it out.
I try and ask people, like Patricia (read 1st page spiel for the full conversation) but she gave up on me, because she couldent answer me back! These people want me to change and be 'normal' like them , but have no particular reason why.. and thats what really bugs me.

Simple. If you want other people to like you then you have to wear what is appealing to them. Or rather, if you want them to dislike you, you should wear something they don't like. You may like dressing like the statue of liberty, and in places like new york city where the statue is revered, you might be mistaken for an insurance salesman or banker, but in other parts of the world, the SOL is not that well liked and people would probably lock you up in the nut house. So try going to a jewish temple dressed as a nazi and see what kind of reaction you get.

So by dressing like the SOL all the time, you are advertising the fact that you are socially ret*d. That is a really bad way to make new friends. At least real friends anyway. When do weird things like that, you'll get attention from a lot of people, but it will be the wrong kind of attention.

I remember hearing an episode of a radio show called "This American Life" (IIRC) about someone who wore a costume which looked like Superman's outfit often in public. I don't have the link, but it was really good and worth seeking out. The interesting part to me was how people reacted.
Eccentric Club Online - The Eccentric Club (UK) - Are You Eccentric?
@Flaggy: How do people react when you are in public? I am sure this varies, but I expect you see a lot of smiles and signs of approval. I expect there are some who assume you are making a political statement about the USA and might disapprove because of that if they find fault with the US. You can point out that the Statue of Liberty was made in France and was given to the USA as a gift. Who can object to what it stands for? Who could object to liberty? I suppose it has also come to represent favoring immigration. BTW I live in the US and often find fault with it as any good citizen would. But if I saw you on the street, I would smile and give the thumbs up. (A sign of approval over here.) :) :wtg:

I tend to dress in what I consider decent clothing. However one day I'm preppy nerd and one day I'm emo/goth and somedays I just throw one whatever's clean. I'm a larger girl(220 pounds) and i told an aid in my class about torrid and she said "I'm not gonna see fat and blubber am I?" I ended up in tears. She should look in mirror.
