This. I notice this at work all the time and it frustrates the hell out of me. I want to do something about it, but I can't.

I've always thought people are weird and I will never understand them.

Growing up I never payed any attention people to think of them as weird.

These days I do notice it more. My sister gave me a look as though their was something wrong with me when I admitted to liking Star Trek. I didn't even get into how much it didn't bother me because it's all sci-fi. I watched sci-fi before getting into Star Trek so what's so odd about watching it too. And I want to be a sci-fi author and Star Trek to me is the hardcore type of sci-fi.

Then she was watching all these reality shows and I was surprised to find that I actually had that many other channels. It got a bit tiresome because I didn't see the point in watching that many trashy shows. Stuff like Boss Swap or celebrity cake making or whatever.

I don't want to call her weird because that's what I am and I love it. I love being into things people aren't and having so much knowledge about things. I don't feel like I'm missing out at all when I can't join in on a chat. I just begin to imagine I'm in some sort of sci-fi movie while people are just chatting around me.

Funnily enough I can generally relate to the average NT. But there are some people out there who are strange, there always will be. But I don't think NTs in general are strange. I'm the strange one, not them! I'm not going to pass my awkwardness onto them.

I really am intolerant of others, which is ironic because I don't like them much because they are intolerant of me! haha. But seriously, I don't understand them and it makes me really frustrated. I don't get the social culture of why people feel the need to always be together in these big groups and clicks, it's like they are nothing without each other and can't survive unless they are attached to others, it seems... weak to me. I don't understand outside influences in style or acting a certain way, what I mean by that is why does everyone who listens to rap dress like a thug? Why do all high school girls dress the same? Why do goths all have black long hair and black clothes? Where I am going with this is why do people feel the need to "become" something? Is it one large effort to fit in/feel part of something? I don't feel the need to belong to anything, I just am... well me... which I think is fine. I live life extremely frustrated though because I don't get these things, and I am surrounded by it everywhere I go so it is a constant reminder of how frustrating this society is, I just don't get it and I can't say that enough and it still feels like I am not making my point. I DON'T GET IT, really.

Yes, but I like weird, and I'm beginning to understand them.

I know what you mean. I hate not being able to spot bad people like NTs can do.

Yes, most people very strange to me, like, why is it that half their conversation is TV references? But they think I'm weird, because, for example, I do not like TV reference jokes because the jokes was funny when I saw them on TV; it is not funny after I have heard it repeated for the 1,000th time.

I don't believe I've considered too many people as weird. Just myself.

Have you ever seen Star Trek? There's an episode (TNG) called 'Darmok', where Picard gets stranded on a planet with an alien who speaks in a way the universal translator can't work with. Turns out those people speak in metaphors and references to their own history. People who seem to relate entirely in terms of what they've seen on TV remind me of it.

And yet 20th century broadcast television was able to translate said planet's speech. Must be that technology got lost.

The people of the past were much cleverer than we give them credit for.

I think that in general, people seem for the most part normal. I know a few REALLY WEIRD people, but it's more NT interests that seem "weird" to me. It's only been within the last few years that I've been learning about NT interests, I had really never given it much thought before. I've never had many friends, and I can't say that I ever thought to wonder about what others liked. Outside of shared interests of course.

I was in my last year of highschool before I realized that certain brands of clothing were "cooler" than others, and that girls were basically expected to wear makeup. I was 22 before I started wearing makeup, and that was ONLY for work.

Then, around a month ago, I was reading a Canadian Living magazine and getting annoyed by the ads and stuff on fashion/makeup/celebs. Those magazines actually used to have good crafts and recipes, and family tips in them. Actually useful stuff...so I was cheesed off. So anyway, I said to my husband "Why do they put articles and ads on this stuff, in magazines? Nobody likes those things anyway." And he looked at me, like as if I was joking. And then he told me that those are the most popular things to most females. Seriously?! I had no idea.

Goes to show how small my bubbles is

Some NTs seem more normal than others but I still think they're pretty weird. They're always so dramatic and follow so many fads, it doesn't make sense.
