I actually did something different - when I was a kid anyway.

I used to repeat almost everything I said under my breath right after I said it. This thread made me look this up and apparently it's a sign of tourettes. Also saw some posts saying autistic kids do this.

Honestly I still get the urge to do it, but I got teased about it so much when I was a kid I eventually forced myself to stop vocalizing it.

I did that, and so did my son, but I made myself learn to do the repeats in my head. Like talking, almost like I can hear myself saying it, but not moving my mouth. He still moves his mouth a lot when he does this, but I can't often hear him anymore. I also used to repeat entire conversations or sections of books to myself when I went to bed until my mom started bugging me about 'talking in my sleep', and I had to learn to be quieter about that, too.

It is so cool to find a place where other people do the same odd things that I do.

I was hoping someone would say that - it's exactly what I do. That's what I mean by 'I don't vocalize it'.

I've been told I occasionally mumble in my sleep, but I don't think I form particular words. I'll have to ask my parents if I did this as a kid (if they recall).

Agreed.

I've memorized many movies and tv shows. I would just start quoting them, and continue till the end. I just memorized them. I never really made such an effort. Recently, I've taken to subconciously quote el Chavo. It just pops out.

I only quote things if I find them relevant or more eloquently worded than something I could blurt out. Recently I saw that my mom was Jesus-ifying my truck with stickers and the like, and I quoted the show Firefly: "You're welcome on my boat Shepard, God ain't." Or I'll quote things to prove a point, I F***IN LOVE QUOTES.

I do that, even with music....sometimes someone else just said it better so why not repeat their version. Though sometimes I feel a bit guilty if some person does not know what I am referencing and thinks its something I came up with.

Last year and earlier this year, I was obsessed with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the Johnny Depp version) and I watched it so many times that I memorized all of Willy Wonka's lines. And I seized every opportunity to quote him, no matter how small that opportunity was.

Coincidentally, your (OP's) user name and current avatar, Futurama, is where I used to quote from! Unfortunately, Bender's lines such as 'bite my shiny metal ass', and various other insults don't work quite so well in real life so I got beat up quite a lot. I also got told off for shouting 'quit staring at me you jerks!' in a lesson. I can't remember where that one came from but it came out in an American accent (I'm English) and again I got told off :(

I still do this sometimes but not to make people think I am cool or anything, I think it has become like a calming stim. I do have Tourettes as well though so some of my echolalia is involuntary and pointless! The worst is if someone swears or says something bad around me... I pick it up, it stores somewhere then shoots out at the worst possible time

So totally true for me too.
My thing my friend (and to some extent my family) keeps getting pissed off at me for - and I TRY to keep it inside now - is whenever someone asks "Which way?" or "What do you want to do?" I absolutely can't ignore the fact that the entire scene with the "Helping Hands" from "Labyrinth" comes into my head (It's playing now!) and I have to have to have to say at least a few lines of it out loud ("Up or Down? Well since I'm pointing that way I guess I'll go down. She chose down! Was that wrong? Too late now!"). I find that if I don't do so immediately, I'll wind up "watching" the whole movie in my head for the rest of the day until I CAN quote somethign else and fit it in (logically or illigically).

"One way leads to the Castle... The other way leads to (da da da da) certain death!"
"Should'a'kept on going ri'tha'way... should'a gone streight to tha kastel..."

Everyone around me cliches all the time. :) For example, the line "I know you are, but what am I?"...... The first time I heard that was in Peewie Hermin the movie, and I bet alot of people don't even know.
