I never used to get humor at all. I never got the joke, never liked comedians and all that, and it got really old being a "robot". SO, I treated humor like all other social situations, I sat back and decided to "learn" humor. I memorized jokes, watched comedians, watched people watch comedians, practiced jokes, read joke and humor books and came up with numerous rules on how to tell jokes, what kind of jokes to tell to who and so on. Most of this failed, at first anyway, but after years I got to the point where I am actually "funny". I also sort of get the jokes, well ok I get most jokes now, but they are not funny to me in the way that they are to most NTs. Or so it seems to me anyway.

What I do find humorous is rarely funny to anyone else, Aspie, NT or robot. That's ok, I never really got how it matters that what you like others like either.

It depends in what mood I'm in, but often NT humour does make me laugh. But I start to get annoyed when people bicker to eachother in that jokey sort of way, because I know full well that everyone would take it seriously if I started to talk like this. There are 2 women at my vollunteer job who bicker all the time but in that jokey way (not real bickering), and I've even noticed others getting fed up with them in the end. They are the best of friends, but are abusing eachother in a jokey way, and it drives me up and wall in the end! I try to not listen to them, but I don't have selective hearing so I have to hear it all.

But I do like it when people give a little impression of a situation that might happen. I really don't know what this is called or how to explain it, but I really love people who do this.

I have no problems with most NT humo[u]r including sarcasm, irony, being serious about silly things, and silly about serious things. Nowhere is this more evident than in the work place - we are in a fairly relaxed environment and joking around with each other is accepted, if not expected. When we hired a new manager, he encouraged pranks and practical jokes as well.

I can understand typical NT humor and get their jokes, but it doesn't make me laugh. I feel I always have to fake my laughter with them in order to be polite.
I have a really strange sense of humor which revolves around bizarre, random, exaggerate stuff, which most people don't get. I've even introduced it in short bits to NTs with very little response from most of them, so I've stopped. Now, I will only reveal it to people who I think will respond to it well. I do have a few friends (all NT) who laugh at the same things as I do. My mom also shares this sense of humor, which is where I believe I got it from. :P

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

When i think of NT humor... i think of the movie "The Hangover"... It thoroughly annoyed me... not only because it just was not funny in any sense... but i was interrogated and insulted if i explained to anyone why i didnt like it...

I've gotten this exact scenario so many times. I don't understand why so many people are insistent that everyone must have enjoyed that movie. I'v started just lying and saying it was funny. lol

I don't watch sitcoms, except the IT Crowd, which is just daft.

The IT Crowd is my favorite! I also enjoy Eddie Izzard and Dylan Moran's stand-up.

You are doing consciously what they do subconsciously. Congrats. You have just found out the first major fact of what we are: We are NTs decluttered.

See now that made me chuckle a little. Smart humor.

my humor tends to the real unpc stuff, it tends to offend people and then when they cop an attitude with me I argue with them to try to convince them its funny....endlessly. or I get mad when they get offended and not know why.

I tend to say unpc stuff that usually offends people or makes them laugh... but, neither one is my intention when I say that stuff. It's just the truth and I don't understand why the truth offends people. It's the truth whether you like it or not, there shouldn't be feeling associated with it. Sorry, that's a different discussion.
