I was just wondering something... if there are any aspies that are like this or if it was just me.
Anyway, I love being in the water. I always feel calmer being IN the water yet... once I get out, I start hating the clingy wet feeling of water against my skin. I even feel it after drying off and when I go to sit down or put on clothes... it just feels like the cling to me and I hate it even more.
Is it me or are there any other aspies like this as well?
I don't think it's an Aspie thing as such, because everybody I know says the worst part of going swimming is drying themselves afterwards with all water running down their skin and goosepimples appearing all over their body. I feel the same.
I used to love swimming as a child, but it wasn't because of being in the water. Well, it was, but not physically - I just liked being in the water because it was fun to play in (most kids like playing in the pool). There is nothing unique about love being in the water. I don't really like water myself - I don't like my hair getting all wet and my sinuses start burning and my ears really ache if I go under the water. So I never go under the water.
When I was at school I was the last kid in my class to learn how to swim (I was 11 before I could swim - even though I loved to play in the water before I could swim). I always thought maybe I was the last one to learn to swim because I had AS, but I'm not the type to associate all my strengths and weaknesses on my diagnosis. I only thought it was because of the AS because I was the only Aspie in my class and also the last to swim, but that could be a coincidence. I do have Dyspraxia aswell, so.....
