At first I didn't like it because it made me a little groggy but now that my body is used to ~1,000 mgs/day I am really feeling some positive effects. While I'm on it my anxiety drops a lot. Also, it helps me control my racing thoughts. My mind still jumps everywhere, in other words it's still racing but I feel like it helps calm it down a bit. It's not a miracle drug by any means, but for a natural medicine I have to say it works much better than most others I have tried.

LOL I just posted about L-Tyrosine in an ADD thread. I can't believe it made you drowsy!? It usually gives me a bit of an uptick. Were you taking it with GABA by any chance? That stuff knocks me on my a** but is so good for focus.

Yeah, but in all fairness sometimes I will take a klonopin with it as well which would explain the groggyness. I have GABA but I stopped using it after a week or so. It didn't seem to help. And apparently it doesn't cross the 'blood-brain barrier'. I have no idea what that means, but apparently it's a big deal. I purchased it more of a shot-in-the-dark thing.

L-tyrosine is no ADHD solution but it definitely has some positive results.

You should try out an All Natural product called P-Boost.
This product actually works and they offer 100% Money back guarantee if you're unsatisfied with the results.

I'm big into supplements hypothetically, but am always afraid those that aren't strictly vitamins (A, B, etc) will make me gain weight.
Klonopin is the worst for grogginess- it knocked me out most of the day when I was on it.

Yes, it's a good amino acid, I take a 1000mg of L-Tyrosine a day, along with 17 other amino acids, I found this study regarding it to be very interesting.

The Properties & Effects Of Tyrosine Are:

Relieving stress, both from life situations and secondary to exercise

Improves cognitive performance under stressful conditions.

Relieving depression, burnout, anxiety, and mental fatigue. Often tyrosine is recommended for use with St. John's Wort, an herbal preparation that is believed to aid mild depression, for maximum effect against stress.

Improving alertness and enhance cognitive performance.

Improving workout intensity, increase recuperation and prevent overtraining - secondary to its ability to influence peripheral and CNS levels of neurotransmitters.

Increasing thermogenesis, lipolysis and maximizes body composition

Effective in the treatment of cocaine addiction, caffeine withdrawal and other drug (addictions).

Useful for ameliorating premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

GABA = placebo

It doesn't cross the blood - brain barrier so there is no possible way it could directly knock
you out. Read the pharmacology and science yourself. There is eveidence it increases growth
hormone levels if taken in high doses which is why body builders use the stuff. Seriously, do
the homework and understand what the substance is and how your body processes it for every
suppliment/ amino etc etc.

Well there are studies done on tyrosine that it has some positive effects.
But so far I understood it, it helps mostly by stress and less by depressions and it crosses the blood-brain barrier (it's the only way it can get in the brain in the first place, because it can NOT be produced in the brain).
It can also be given to alcoholcis to help the detoxification.

You can take up to 100mg tyrosine per each kg weight, but not more than 12000mg tyrosine. But the usual dosage is around 500-1500mg.

I read that araound 50% of autistics have too less phenylalanine and tyrosine.
The body converts phenylalanine to tyrosine.
