Oh god no. The last thing we need are superficial status symbols and popularity contests.

I remember hearing of a group called the "Autistic Liberation Front." Apparently it was a joke, but there are buttons and such you can buy with their logo on it.

I would assume he's considering something in the style of a self help group providing mutual support. Ie; the people with skills try and help those without.

IMHO, the aspies i've seen [so far] remind me [by and large] of hyper-logical fastidious long-tailed cats, hypervigilant of rocking chairs, that are reluctant to play nice with one another, who live in their own worlds of idiosyncratic rationality which are defended with high impregnable walls [of inpenetrably argumentative verbiage] and broad alligator-filled moats [of pedantic prosaic invective] to keep never-to-be-trusted outsiders safely outside. just my opinion here. It's a human phenomena and I've seen this narrow approach in certain people and have noted this wild extremity of this here on the board. I'm glad you are reasonable as many here are.

I don't believe the rabid nature of this can be penetrated. At a certain point it becomes a subconsciously entrenched belief.
The incontrovertible danger here is there is an emotional need for this.

Oh, he was joking? Darn. I was about to suggest that magnetic bombs and motorcycles are more trendy these days. An' yanow, the Aspie CRIPS would have to be in style...

Really, how much of the social difficulty that you all love to dwell on is just that you don't know who you are inside?

I have three uncles who are always at odds. Their personal styles are night-and-day different, but their real nature is identical. They hate each-other because the Greco-Mesopotamian culture that they were raised with demonizes strength, and each one sees in the others the same strengths that he's trying to destroy in himself. The cure? Stop letting a bunch of brain-dead goat-herders tell you what's good and bad.

Really, look at the Mideast; look at Europe for the 1,000 years before there were scads of US troops keeping them from killing each-other; look at them quarreling now that we're drawing our troops down. Is that an ideal worth waging war on your own instincts for? Rather than half-heartedly (brokenheartedly?) joking about CRIPS and drivebys, why not get a pair (heck, even a pair for each of you so that you don't have to share) and get to know yourselves. The rather than being at odds with everyone who has anything in common with who you really are inside, rather than being bad at being something unnatural, rather than being alone with the self that you hate because you can't stand anyone who reminds you of it, and rather than being constantly worn-out living an act when everyone that you have to compete against gets to flit around on impulse, you could be good at being who you really are, know who your natural allies are, build effective teams, and win.

[edit]: Oh, and I wouldn't say it's "just population diversity" if what we're talking about is a skill-share. Populations can be diverse and still not work together.

If I followed your advice, I would end up dead, or in prison, very...very quickly.

You realise how amusing is this notion? We're people who have real problems socialising and being comfortable in groups? I think I may have discovered why we don't stick together.

Well, that's certainly a nice assumption, but if it were valid, then who would pay the helpers and how much would they be paid?

it would probably look like a joke to the NT population, Jay Leno & David Letterman would probably have a field day roasting this aspie brotherhood in their monologs.

Don't let them in?, keep them out?, pretend the event is something else officially?

Meeting other like minded people on your own terms is something that may be worthwhile. Infact WP is a kind of such place. However the term "brotherhood" makes me cringe, it implies unspoken social coherence. Which would be in direct contradiction to the nature of most aspies.

There's no need to "rise up". Only to raise awareness to ignore NT-ish view on life issues and see beyond ordinary irrelevant noise. With internet one can connect to like minded people. And organize around (circumvent) societal quirks.

Aspergers Liberation Front?! What exactly are we going to do once we have 'liberated' ourselves? Has this strategy been subject to a non-executive dysfunction analysis ?
