I hate that as well, recently it was some old lady asking for someone who doesn't live where I do, and it took several times to explain that. I think she probably had some form of dementia, but fortunately hasn't called since. Another time, people call asking for the Harbor Department, as my landline number is one digit off from the real Harbor Department's number. That hasn't happened in at least a year, but it was annoying.

Only a few people know my cellphone number, and tend to use that more than my landline phone. If someone doesn't have my cell number, it's because I don't feel like talking to them.

So normal people find it OK to call several times?

-My mum does this,, but I though she was the one with the problem.. so it's my asppie nature that get's pissed of with her?

Some of my friends do it too - I actually ended a freindship because he just didn't get it - piss off and leave me alone.

I just hate talking on the phone. I have trouble coping with the phone conversation going on in one ear, and whatever else is happening in my world going on in the other ear. Drives me batty. Email is best.

Me either. Sometimes I don't have the energy to deal with someone, or it's not what I'm interested in at the moment so I really don't see the point :?

I guess so! The one I'd mentioned that called 6 times in a day for about three/four days in a row? I ended that friendship real quick - he definitely didn't get it either. My three or so real / close friends know better than to do that to me...it's acquaintances or new people I've met who try that crap (usually guys)!

Kpupg,

Yep, I have that ear thing as well when it comes to the phone. It's such an effort at times! It's even problematic in person as well to pay attention to someone speaking as some of the words get warbled or just disappear...thank goodness for my tendancy to look at the lips instead of the eyes! My lipreading helps out a lot!! !

Ring a bell? Gret pun!

Yes, it drives me nuts if the phone rings at all. The people that I want to hear from know to communicate by email. So when the phone rings, there isn't any possibility that it might be somebody I want to hear from.

For me, I think it's an introvert/extrovert thing. I'm introverted, so it makes sense that I'm not on the phone all day. But for an extrovert, they *need* to talk out loud to another human being. It's hard-wired in them, just as solitude is hard-wired in me. Knowing this makes it a bit easier. Sparks still fly, but it doesn't take so long to calm down.

I've never found anything to convince an extrovert that phone calls are not fun. :?

I hate it when people call me on the phone over and over too. The ring of a normal phone physically hurts me also (many noises do actually), so my cell phone has a Mozart ring tone that is much more tolerable. Also, when I don't want to be bothered I put my ring tone on silent.

Speaking of phones, I have a lot of trouble getting myself to make a phone call. Other people don't get it and think I just don't care enough about them to bother calling...

Yes, too many phone calls or phone calls after 9:00PM or before 8:AM bug me. Despite the fact I'm usually up past midnight I'm almost always on IM so people can talk to me there (and it's easier to ignore people through IM).

Everything you all said, I agree with! I frequently scream when the phone rings at home  Actually my husband got very cross with me for screaming "F*** OFF!! !" at the phone when it rang the other day!

My main ring tone is that of a Sitar (Indian stringed instrument) which is very soothing to me, so that helps. I also have a hell of a time when it comes to making phone calls, so you have someone here that gets it!
