So, after months of being told a load of BS about how my report has been lost, I am not registered with the GP named on my referral letter, etc. I was finally told yesterday that I didn't have the full assessment and that I was only screened. I am really not happy with this. I was hoping to have the full assessment done. The psychiatrist spoke to me yesterday and finally told me this.

Apparently, he doesn't do the full assessment and can't tell me the name of anywhere / anyone who can.

I am in South West England. Does anyone know of anywhere and anyone who will do the full assessment please?

I have now been sent a form on how to complain. I will write the stuff that I've written here about how I was only screened and all the crap I was told, I think.

Maybe try contacting the National Autistic Society? They should have regional details and know who you need to be referred to. My GP said he referred me to "the place where they deal with learning disabilities"..I don't know where that is or even if it's the right place, but we'll see.

Interesting, I was sent to community mental health team.

I live nowhere near Worcestershire.

Spoke to GP on Wednesday. She won't refer me to be properly diagnosed because apparently I don't need it. I've been screened. She said that the screening is enough. How is it? She doesn't seem to understand that I need a diagnosis. Just how difficult is it to understand that I need a diagnosis? Screening virtually means nothing.

I've told her I've got no evidence at all regarding my diagnosis and what my needs are. I need this for uni and other stuff. She said she'll just call them and find out what's needed.

What are my next options? I'm not sure how difficult it is to understand that I urgently need a diagnosis and have needed one for years now.

So it looks like either going private (which isn't recognised by DWP, apparently) or finding a more sympathetic doctor who will refer me.

Yet, if I was physically disabled, they would do the referral. Why is it different because I have Autism?

I had my diagnosis done when I was a child at a clinic that specializes in ASD.

My GP said he'd refer me to "the place that deals with learning disabilities"
The letter I got yesterday came from the autism diagnostic clinic which is part of a hospital that deals with people with learning disabilities. It will vary from place to place.

Explain the situation again. Maybe ask to see a different doctor within your practice (you should be able to do this when you make an appointment). Maybe write down your argument for why you need another referral in advance?

Where and how? My ex-psychiatrist didn't have a clue what he was doing and I only found out 4 months later.

i was diagnosed at the CLASS clinic in Cambridge. It's free and is available to all patients in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

I was really impressed with it and it maybe saved me life.

I am nowhere near Cambridge. There are actually no services for adult diagnosis in my area. It's all about children. :x

I've asked and have been told no. Apparently, I don't need it. And apparently I don't need any support either.

seek another dr, it;s your decision whether you need it or not. A good DR will refer you if you ask for it. Have you taken the online AQ/Eq tests? Take them and tell me your score please. This will tell you whether you might have it or not.

Regarding your needs at Uni, speak to one of the disability advisers. It is quite possible that they'll accept a letter from your GP stating the likllihood of your ASD as sufficient evidence, and if not they may be able to help with a referral to an educational psychologist (it costs my workplace many many thousands of pounds each year to pay for ed psych assessments/reports for students who suspect they have dyslexia and other conditions that affect their learning ...!).

Any accomodations you require will be put in place in discussion with you and what you think your needs are ... The discussion will either be directly with a disability adviser or if you apply for DSA with a needs assessor.

So while I understand your frustration and your desire to get a referral for a full assessment by your GP, it one of your main concerns is University it would be worth investing some of your energy in a slightly different area...

Yes, if it's really important then get a private assessment, they do cost, but it would be worth it.
