it would be nice if everyone used words the right way, but it's not the end of the world if they don't (REBT)

I don't see it as being at all minor. If words can mean whatever you want them to mean, then it is impossible to even communicate rationally.

does it offend you that birds dont fly in straight lines, that the sun's surface is uneven, etc etc.? you have to accept the world as it is - it is not a perfect AS-designed everything tidy place. get released from trying to force the world into perfection. get a more complex world model going in your mind. relax yourself, accept ambiguity, imperfection. NT's are not going to confirm to AS desires, they are what they are

Many NTs do appear quite stereotypically "Aspie" in forum discussions, with the posters pulling out the dictionary defintions of words and obsessing over the uses of language and taking eberryone literally.

If the words you use to describe the world lose their meanings, then your description of the world is meaningless.

I'm NT (if there exists such a thing, however I don't have any autistic disorder). I believe that there are quite a lot of foolish people who use the word "autist" to scoff at someone, because they see it as a disability. I think that the person who called you a bad person basically believes you demeaned a lot of people in the discussion (because of implying in her/his eyes that they have a disability) and people with a form of autism at the same time.

When you're familiar with demeaning and (superficial) views of autism and not with the problems with figurative speech that autistic people have, that demeaning implication is far more obvious than the implication that some people in the discussion take things literally and some don't, while discussing with those viewpoints. But that's just my view on this and it could be wrong. NT's aren't always flawless in perceiving implications either. To be clear, I don't see autists as inferior people, I'm just stating that there are groups of people who see autists as inferior, but of course that's not the public opinion.

not meaningless, just different. so if i say blue to descrbe a colour you see as red, that colour still exists and has meaning. we just have a little local difficulty in communicating. that's ok. that's acceptable. that's not the end of the world. we can live with that. the colour is still beautiful, and real

If you see a color as blue that I see as red, then something is really screwed up in our genetics, far past colorblindness.

sorry I wasn't being literal. just trying to give an example. maybe if I use 'joy' when you mean 'content'... it's not a terrible outcome if that happens
