steve, I had the same thought-- that quite possibily he was acting crazy for the camera for dramatic effect. Either that or he's a bonafide madman-- his ramblings about "his children" and being like jesus were incoherent and impossible to follow. He was either totally crazy, faking it, or on drugs.

I drew a couple of conclusions from watching his video clips.

- He's obviously NOT nonverbal (it occured to me that he could be based on his lack of verbal contact with others).
- He lives in a completely alternate reality.
- College age is right around when schizophrenia or bipolar gets diagnosed - if he was so low on the spectrum that he couldn't talk to professors, etc. he'd have been diagnosed with an ASD a very long time ago.
- As I said previously, the ASD "traits" he showed could be attributable to any number of mental illnesses - AS/AU people are generally loners, but being a loner does not make you AS/AU.

My conclusion from watching the videos is that he probably had paranoid schizophrenia. It's possible that he had a comorbid personality disorder like borderline or narcissistic. He didn't just "snap" - his thinking seems to have been based in an alternative reality for a long time. His rantings don't provide any justification that WE can understand (AS, AU or NT) because NONE of us live in his alternative reality. But if we want to have any explanation for why he did what he did, we can listed to his recordings with the understanding that his grievances do not apply in our reality.

I had trouble understanding him at certain points-- did he say "Jesus loves killing" before he started listing different ways to kill people?

He did seem to have a slight speech impediment.

I think he was just a normal guy trying to fit in but failed and was eventually broken by the cruel social structure that NT's rely on. He was a victim too but everyone wants to think he was not like them and try and blame it on being crazy.

The reason he isnt AS is because like us he was a social misfit but its being NT that makes him need to fit in where those with AS only try to fit in to make life easier but dont really need to.

News Just in...

Quote:
Gunman troubled parents because he did not speak as a child
The 81-year-old Kim (maternal grandfather) said Cho "troubled his parents a lot when he was young because he couldn't speak well, but was well-behaved," the report said.

They are now reporting that his great-Aunt said he was diagnosed with autism as a child.

Please show us the evidence (webpage etc.). This needs to be confirmed immediately.

Just saw on Sky News (16.30pm), a psychologist said that Cho seemed to have autism. So its been suggested on TV.

What struck me about the videos is how lucid Cho was when he made them. If he had not killed anyone, everyone would probably have disregarded those videos as another cheap ‘angst’ effort. There was not even an iota of confusion in his voice and the steely certainty with which he said those things are unnerving. This is a guy who has thought of killing people for a long time.

BTW, I can find no reference to Cho as an autistic. All this worrying probably says a lot more about how Aspies see themselves than it does about how others view Aspergers Syndrome.

The reference to autism is in reference to how people with schizophrenia might behave like autistic people.

Why did you even get diagnosed? I have to wonder WHY people figure that being a hermit and hating people mean you are AS. BESIDES, ALL autism has this attitude(aloofness) as a basis, and a lot of psychological orders have a similar feeling with some kind of hatred(which is more like CHO, by the way). Autism generally doesn't mention a hatred, because there generally ISN'T one! Do YOU feel like cho?

GRANTED, a lot here, including myself, speak like we HATE NTs but, when it comes down to it, it is really more like an intense dislike triggered by frustration. As I said, I would rather they all just became ASPIE!

Steve

I didn't mean that every way in which Cho acted (such as his rage and hate) was Aspie, but rather that all the main Aspie traits apply to him. Cho himself extended far beyond them, indeed.

Psychiatry being one of my obsessions, this was also my immediate thought, along with some element of antisocial PD.

I'm also curious to see if the autopsy will reveal anything peculiar in his brain, such as a tumor or lesion.

I don't disagree with you it is just that Schizotypal is very co-morbid with many things. It is disputed as a personality at all.
