Briefly, in the 1990s, I became a qualified driving instructor in the UK. It cost me several thousand pounds to qualify, but I gave it up in less than a year because (a) it was extremely boring, (b) it wasn't making me any money, and (c) peoples' attitude towards driving was just weird, and their parents were even worse.

i don't have my license or even my permit yet, but i've driven with my dad in parking lots, within a car wash, and once on an actual street.
so far, i'm ok with it. driving on the street wasn't too scary...but i'm not that good with judging distances.
i wish i would be able to just drive at night with no destination in mind...but i would have to pay attention to the road, only the road, and i don't think my parents would let me just go for random joy rides, as long as i'm still living with them.

sometimes, bike riding is stressful for me too. the narrow spaces while on the street, watching out for car doors, wide vehicles, idiot drivers, and other bikers can be a pain. it ids inevitable that i will gain this attitude toward driving once i get my licence. i know for a fact my dad did, and much more.
but sometimes it can be exhilarating.

I did pass most of the tests but I turn into a nervous wreck whenever I'm on a real road with other real drivers. To be honest I was pushed into learning how to drive by my parents when i just turned legal. I'm guessing they didn't enjoy carting me around. I just walk everywhere now, and when I get groceries I use a pulling wagon instead of a car that I can't afford. I've trashed 2 cars so basically as soon as I even sit in the driver's seat for a road test I start flipping out now. I'm working at a stable right now and thinking of getting a riding horse if I ever get my s**t together and make real money. Horse vet bills are crazy.

That and you have a crazy licensing thing up there with the G1, G2, etc. It takes far longer to get licensed up there then here in the states. I lived/worked up there for a time and made many friends. Helped one of them learn to drive even. :)

my dad doesnt want me to drive, i cant multitask or even figure out where my body is in space, i would have a very very hard time learning to drive and figuring out what, when and where to go in the road. Temple Grandin says to learn the controls first on empty roads and then learn the roads.

You could start in an empty shopping mall with your dad.

You mean to tell me I'm not the only one whom has issues judging distances while driving as for parallel parking I'm ok as long as I have a "spotter" with me

It's like this; I intentionally leave a piece of sheeting board leaning up against the back wall of the garage so I can get close to the end of the garage without hitting the wall. As soon as I see that board bow in just a little I know I'm where I want to be and will still have plenty of room to open the hatch on my 4runner with the garage door closed behind it.

I was very anxious driving for awhile. But after a few months it felt easier and now 20+ years later it is automatic. But I still get panic attacks when the passenger and not in control.

As young as 5 years old I wanted to drive. In fact, 5 years old was the first time I drove; needless to say, it didn't end well (I ended up going through the next door neighbor's front door). Nevertheless, roads and driving were an obsession for me. I got my learner's permit at 16 and my license at 17. I'm not exactly the greatest driver, having had my fair share of tickets and at-fault accidents over the years, and I have trouble in really tight spaces that require great precision in turning and otherwise moving (like parking lots or driveways).

But I am comfortable doing it and I love the freeway, the one type of road that is the least likely to require such precision!

Funny how we all have ways of overcoming our difficulties. I use a wiffle ball and have it suspended from the overhead. When I pull in if it just touches the windshield I know I am where I need to be.

I don't drive, I dunno if I can or can't. There are a lot of things that frighten me about it.

I took me 2 attempts to pass the theoretical test and 3 attempts to pass the driving test. At the 3rd attempt the driving examiner went easy on me. :D Hating on inanimated objects is just plain stupid.

I have never learned how to drive. I prefer to walk above all else, if it's possible.
