I was very close to having mine removed. They got infected almost every month, the doctor suggested getting them removed and my mother agreed with them. It didn't happen though, for some reason they just didn't get infected after that. Not much anyway. Once every two years instead of twenty four times in two years.

But I don't think that tonsils have anything to do with Autism. Plenty of people without Autism have their tonsils taken out. My mother for one.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Wow! Interesting...I was just talking to my husband about this the other day...First of all, yes I did have one...so no tonsils here...or adenoids...with that said...

I was reading about the adenoids the other day and their function...of course, related to the immune system...Well, geez...aren't the tonsils the same??? There was a recent article in yahoo news about the appendix and how scientists have discovered that there is indeed a relation between the appendix and the gut...basically, having it allows the good bacteria in your gut...without it, your bad bacteria can take over (and probably does)...THEY JUST FOUND THIS OUT? How outrageous!! ! Ok, anyway, at the end of the article it said that they were going to look into the tonsils, because maybe they would ALSO find out there was actually a reason for them...DUH!! ! I have always felt that everything in your body has a function, otherwise, it wouldn't be there...of course, the doctors all claimed that wasn't so...

So, although again I don't believe that autism is ONLY caused by not having your tonsils, etc...I DO very strongly believe that autism is a genetic disorder (for lack of a better term) and that by having a weak immune system, things such as NO Tonsils, NO adenoids, etc...cause your system to be even weaker...then you take modern day environmental toxins and you have just pushed the autism over the edge...which is WHY we are seeing more diagnosis...Not because autism did not exist, but because the immune system of more people is being affected who were genetically predisposed to autism anyway...

Ok, no, I'm not a doctor, just my 2 cents worth...

if we were meant to have everything we were born with and each thing has some sort of function, then what is the function of nipples on a male? Could never figure that one out.

So far I still have my tonsils and appendix. Actually (besides visiting people, being born in one and probably going for some tests) I have never been hospitalized before. (so far).

I actually had to have both my tonsils and adenoids out. I was getting sick every other day, and it was making it hard for me. So, I had them out when I was around four or five. Ever since then, I really ever get sick. I also had a lot of immense chronic ear aches and strep throats that it was time they came out to get rid of them.
