I used the Winters-Messiers study in a paper I wrote for school a couple of years back; it was a good one.

If I had to choose just one special interest, it would probably be psychology. My life wouldn't be complete without my dinosaurs, X-Men and Star Trek, but it would be completely meaningless without psychology. I'm lucky enough to have my future career as my special interest, and while I don't love every aspect of it (if I hear the phrase "correlational study" one more time I'm going to scream), there are enough really cool parts to make sticking it out for the long haul worthwhile.

I have several interests, but if I could only have one special interest, it would be very easy to pick. Turtles

There is a huge gap between all other things that are interesting to me vs. my research.
There is ackshuly nothing special about any other interests I have or things that are interesting to me.
Only my research is my special interest.
There can only be one.

may i ask what you research?

@OP

pick one, hey?

Well, my love for Cosmology, Quantum Mechanics, Astronomy, Neuroscience, etc....is very deep, but if I had to choose.....it would be Eastern Philosophy.

I wish to understand the nature of reality at its most fundamental level. I think that Buddhism, Taoism, Advaita Vedanta, etc... have found it. The West is catching up.
Perhaps I am not capable of understanding, but I will try.

Btw, I have always enjoyed your posts and I have noticed that you don't post very often of late. I hope all is well for you.

Oh, that's so easy. I'd totally go with Tom Hiddleston. <3

The question is unfair. I have two special interests:

Formal model development and (in)validation to understand how the world works
Playing in the ocean with wind, waves, and surf

These interests fuel each other.

Cosmology, as in truth-seeking.

So much to choose from...

I'd choose cats, because they're my favorite animal, I can relate to them, and I have three myself (if you count my fiancé's two cats). Plus, my old room was decorated with cat-related items.

I guess music, even though I cannot really play anything....just can listen, go to concerts and enjoy album art-work especially in vinyl copies. But if I had to go with a single special interest I cannot imagine abandoning that one.

Indie music, in the long run that would provide the most enjoyment and life fulfilment.

I don't really have a special interest nowadays that my OCD is treated by meds but if I had to pick one to have I'd pick my girlfriend. In the past my special interest were listening to music, playing video-games, watching TV, posting on forums. my two ex girlfriends & a celeb I heavily crushed on & obsessed over.

I would have to choose 'spirituality' ~ not in a religious sense but in a 'everything is connected no matter what our faith or politics' sense ...as much as i love poetry, it's really just a tool, a way to express what i think i know and what i'm learning; i was into nature and the mind before i started writing, so no doubt would be even if i couldn't write anymore. ^^^^^
The one thing that has always given me great pleasure tho is music / singing, so i'd hate to be without that.
