That is ridiculous....I am quite certain it is possible. I also am not going to pretend whenever any of us lie its always for some morally better reason than an NT would do it. Sure I've had times I keep information to myself or don't tell the full truth for other peoples benefit, or to protect myself from something worse than the guilt I might feel about lying. But there have also been times I'd simply rather not deal with something, or want to avoid conflict.

Yes, this for me. I can lie, but I don't automatically think of lying if faced with an awkward situation. I'm more inclined to sit and think for ages how to be truthful without embarrassing myself, in the case of getting out of say going out somewhere for instance. I hate lying. I have lied before, but I'm not particularly good at it. I can be very blunt with honesty and have annoyed people or offended them and not meant to. Sometimes it can be real hard work trying to be honest in a way that doesn't offend someone. I'm always putting my foot in it.

We can. We learn to. Because I found that some NTs would rather be lied to than listen to the truth. Plus, there are situations where lies can keep you safe. Purely hypothetical, never happened to me yet.

Me? It... certainly didn't come naturally. Friends told me that I usually provide unhelpful/vague answers instead of outright lying. Just provide a statement so... broad that it simply cannot be untrue!

This also stands out for me; I've had to do this.

For me, this thread isn't so much about the "looking fat in this dress" lie, than about serious matters where someone can use your truth to hurt you or have power.

Yeah, that's exactly why I don't tell that I'm an Aspie----so, if "withholding" is lying, then I'm a big fat liar.

One or both of you could be lying. Did I break the thread?

I can lie when necessary. I can make it sound convincing as well. I always find it hard to be blunt. I can think up a compatible lie within 1 second sometimes.
Even as a small child I remember lying sometimes, like one time when I was 5 some kids at school got in trouble and went to hide in the playground behind a bench. Nobody specifically told me they were hiding, I just saw it for myself. I forgot about it but a few minutes later I was randomly asked by a teacher if I had seen where the kids had gone, and I said "no". The teacher easily believed me and went off to look for the trouble-makers, asking some other children if they had seen where they went. I think one of them blurted out the truth.

Does this mean I'm not an Aspie?

I can lie. I just find it internally painful to do so. I think I'm less likely to lie that NTs in my world, as it often seems illogical or manipulative or just stupid to do so. So why would I? I often have great internal pain over how much others lie, rather than just being honest, because it would fix and prevent a lot of problems.

When my kids were young, I pretended I had magical powers and could make the radio volume in the car go softer/louder by waving my hand. In fact, I was simply adjusting the volume, with my hidden hand, using the volume control on the steering wheel. But was that lying? Or was I simply playing games with my kids?

I suppose, what I am saying, is that I am pretty good at "stretching the truth", with my kids. However, once it becomes a serious thing, like my wife asking me, "where did you go last night", that lying becomes very difficult to me. Sometimes, if I know she will be mad at me with the truthful response, I will attempt to deflect the question. Or simply not answer it. But, I would never lie. Why? I think there are several reasons:

#1 - Because I am not good at embellishing and maintaining the lie (say, if asked a follow-up question). This is something I realized very, very early in my life. My mental facilities were not quick enough to cover all aspects of the lie. That is, I would easily get caught up in the lie.
#2 - Because I feel remorse about not telling the truth.

hmmmm thought I already responded to this thread...

I can lie pretty well, I'm plenty capable of it but I think I probably lie significantly less than most NTs which according to studies is a staggering amount. They said that the average person lies 3 times in a 10 minute conversation which I would probably do in a day, maybe... I think because I am so honest most of the other time that people just assume I am telling the truth when I do lie rather than me being super convincing.
