I agree. It's hard to even imagine what would make people dislike it so much.



I didn't look closely at who the people were but seemed like it was more adults commenting than kids.

I thought the same thing about the way other kids acted when I was growing up. I understood they didn't know any better and were mostly just copying adults.



Yeah it is sad, and you know there has to be something really off about a person who would act that way. I totally agree that they must hate themselves most of all.

But I don't feel sympathy anymore for people who do things like that. I used to, but now I think there is just no excuse for it. Some people just enjoy being nasty to others and they damn well know better. If you make excuses for them, or you feel bad for them or try to understand, it doesn't help anything. It just incites them to act worse.

It's been a year, but I have to bump this thread up.
Our English class is having to do a TED Talk for the final exam. This week we grabbed laptops, put on headphones, and watched 5 TED Talk videos of our choice, doing analysis worksheets and rating them 1-10 (1 very poor, 10 very good).
Rosie King was the one that had the best rating, in my opinion. It's 6 minutes, but it is a great TED Talk about the life of an autistic girl. We have strong vivid imaginations, and NT people don't like hearing about our special interests. The conformity of high school has forced me to talk about things on a "safe and sane/censored" list. Hiking, TV shows, movies, sports, school itself, vacations, etc. Things that all the NT teens like. The special interests where for some, only a few hundred or few thousand Americans do, are on an "no-no/uncensored" list for school. You cannot get me to talk about those at school, because people will think I'm weird, and do you wish for me to lose friends because of my "boring" and "stupid" and "weird" and "odd" interests? No!

I would never vlog on YouTube, because I'm afraid of what I would find in the comments. My Fragile-X friend wants to do a vlog about her daily struggles, and I don't like to say this to her but she will probably receive nasty comments by internet trolls who have nothing better to do than to criticize YouTube videos in the meanest way. Unless it's of a girl, caked in make-up and almost showing her tits, sitting there staring at the camera talking softly about her stupid teenage social life, so softly you can bearly hear what she's saying. Just for stupid boys and men to masturbate to or use it as some sort of asmr, and all her friends posting comments about how wonderful she is, and male strangers posting comments saying how beautiful she is. Yuk.

The comments on the video must have sure changed since this thread was started. Because the comments I see on the video are about 99% positive and the video has 4,814 likes vs 245 dislikes.

Just do it. f**k what people say in the comments.

Thats your choice, but you may be missing out on something good. The way I see it, if I post a video on YouTube, and 99 people hate it, and one person likes it, then it was worthwhile. Because my message got through to one person, and the other 99 who hated it, probably just have some issues, not even related to the video. I could even delete the hate comments and block the users, but I prefer to keep them there for laughs. But thats just me.

Don't worry about the Youtube comments. Think instead about the crowd of people listening to every word, laughing at her jokes, and then clapping when she finished. How many of those people will see autism differently because of her talk? How many will go home and spend time with an autistic family member, friend, acquaintance, student, anyone, and treat them differently because of Rosie King's words?

Indeed. I should not have used the term "low IQ" as this was inaccurate. I should have said lower than "average intelligence." Having a low IQ does not equate to low intelligence per se as intelligence has many forms of which IQ testing only measures a few. My colloquial use of the term "low IQ" to mean "low intelligence" was sloppy, especially given that this is a place that celebrates neurodiversity. There are many within the autistic community and wider neurodiverse community that have low IQ's but who are perfectly intelligent.

It's possible to disable comments on a video, if that makes any difference. If it was me, I still wouldn't want to do it though.
