I definitely do. I also find that after a day of being out and away from my home, I am exhausted and sleep for hours at a time. Socializing takes a lot out of me and it wears me out quickly.

Socializing always seems to tire me out greatly. I'm very thankfully I can use voice chat on the computer to talk with online friends instead of just something like video chat.

I was able to pass for very social and even centre of attention but I always felt it's pretended and it was making me depressed. The other thing was that I couldn't make friends even with all the socializing I was doing.Since I realized I'm on yhe spectrum I'm trying to cut down on that and I feel better but that brought other problems.

Hmm...

If you mean to socialize with acting and scripts in order to follow the social rules, and pretend to be sociable then yes because it's unnatural.

And if socializing, with disregard on social rules and on your own way, the reaction varies. Then yes, because I'm no psychic.

If I were to choose between the two, I would rather take the latter. I want to learn the former minus unnatural parts in my own pace, in my own way.

I'm terrible at socializing. Always have been. At this point, I've pretty much given up. Much safer and saner at home.

It drains me. I feel awkward enough, let alone being the focus of attention in conversations...you know, when it's your turn to participate, or, when is it your turn, or playing catch up because people are talking over one another. Trying to sort multiple incoming sources of information, which to respond to, out of sync in the conversation, or just drifted away.

I think that's the most tiring.....having to focus on the things that are so banal.

It depends on the social situation that I'm in. I find it easy to socialize with my friends and other people at my clubhouse. I feel that I need to be careful what I say around my coworkers. I'm very quiet around my parents. I'm more able to appreciate their company than I'm able to have intelligent conversations with them. I have to be careful not to say the wrong things around my parents.

I feel blessed to have friends who understand my Special Interests and differences. I wish my family could do the same.

Yes, socializing is very difficult for me. When I have to be with people around the same age as me(~30 years old), it is very draining. I get along very well with people 22+ years younger than me, so it is very lonely. The only time I can be around the people I get along with is when I am helping out in activities at church.

Yes. But unless it's something I am interested in, I am okay or if it's only one person I am fine. I can talk to my husband fine and to my mom. I can't go and just force myself in a social situation and start talking and listening to what I am not interested in. Plus the hardest part about it is not interrupting and having to hold that thought in my head but yet then I can't focus on what is being said to me and then I either focus on what is being said and forget what I was going to say and by the time I remember, the topic has moved on. It's like the other people doesn't shut up to let me speak and then they talk again when I am about to open my mouth. I prefer online communication more. I have to look for that cue to speak and I know I am working harder than others who read it.

I find it easier to socialize with animals than people. Humans are extremely difficult for me to fathom especially where I can't predict their behaviour one moment to the next. The vast majority of people I encounter fall into two categories harmless/neutral and downright dangerous. Unfortunately I encounter more of the latter than I do harmless/neutral which is why I prefer shunning most people outside of work.

Acting like a neurotipical, keeping all the social rules in mind, making my tone of voice and facial expressions appropriately change, interpreting the tone of voice and facial expressions of others, trying to quickly process language, using memorized phrases whenever possible, worrying about posture and eye contact, ...

It's all very hard and mentally draining. I have gotten good enough that people are none the wiser about my autism when I talk to them, but that is not easy and I still sometimes make mistakes that cause people to question my sanity.

I find attending parties difficult, things like wedding receptions. Maybe I might enjoy them more if I could drink alcohol, but I'm not a lover of drinking alcohol, and I'm afraid of a hangover, as I have Emetophobia.

Speaking to people is relatively easy if we're just passing information to each other and our conversation has a professional-type bent to it.

Speaking socially is another beast, however. Most people are not into what I'm into and I'm not into what most people are into. If I'm in a room and people are talking about babies, cats, sports, cars, women, weddings, the weather, the Kardashians, the local mall, pizza or the best dog park in town, my mind will drift off into Never Never Land.
