"stop biting your nails"..........why, in what way does this actually affect you? They're my fingers after all.
I see this a lot here. Well, a couple of times, but it is common enough that it is repeated. So, let me answer you by real experience from me and my brother.

1. I used to bite my nails until I got Impetigo, stage 3 from it. Impetigo is very, very contagious, so I got isolated from physical contact. My skin broke out in highly infectious boils. They would break and streak at night. New boils would form on the streaks and start the process all over again. Had to get wrapped up like a mummy on both thighs. Took weeks to get rid of it and hurt like you would not believe. Try being covered in boils between your thighs when you walk and everything rubs against each other, or try to sleep when you can't find a spot that's not boiled up into giant whiteheads. Thank god we got it before it reached the crotch. Oh, and let us not forget the pain of having to have them cut open and expressed. Still have leg scars from it after nearly 50 years.

2. My brother almost ruined his finger tips from biting and peeling the nails. Infections from torn nails into the quick. Ruined nail bed and a bit of loss of sensation from all the beating the nails took over the years.

So, does that affect you? A short search would have answered that and more.

Just because you don't like it doesn't invalidate it.

No, I've never had any infection. I still don't see how it affects other people though :?

1.) You may not have had an infection, but it doesn't mean you won't. False equivalency

2.) It affects them, they say it does. You want to have to prove every little thing that bothers you to every single person you meet? I have to do that every f*****g day to NTs when I tell them why 'little' things bother me. Makes me nuts that people just can't accept things. Especially when they want others to be accepting.

3.) Maybe people are telling you for your own good and you just don't like it and think it's their problem.

Again, it is a valid issue.

"What am I, chopped liver?" Only when directed at my brother. Pressures him into responding in the right way.

"Don't you all jump up at once." Judging individuals by what a whole group does.

"Be quiet, this is a library." Makes me feel uncomfortable in the library because I'm afraid someone will say this.

"It's not rocket science." Cliche way to call someone stupid.

"Lowest common denominator." Why does liking different things than you make someone "lower" than you?

Does any one else use expressions that make themselves swirm?

Like Bless his heart

Or

Bless her heart

I work near a woman who calls everyone she talks to on the phone "you're a breath of fresh air, you are"...I couldn't stand listening to some of the BS things she says so I chose to move away from her.

"that is so autistic" - often used to insult over something that most of the time isn't even an autistic thing in the first place.

"Are you alright?" (Said whilst I'm stimming) - Actually, yes I am. I'm alright BECAUSE I'm stimming. So lemme stim.

"Make a difference."

I'm fairly sure that no matter what I do, I'll make a difference to something. If I just lay in bed all day, people would come looking for me. The only not to make a difference would be to not exist.

"Get a wriggle on". One of those expressions that makes me inexplicably furious and want to rip out the eyes of the person who said it. I have a couple more like that, but I don't want to drive myself nuts.

"Go with the flow"/"It's no big deal". You have no idea how hard change is for me. Just because you think it's small and you're flexible enough to deal with it easily, doesn't mean I am. Also, this comment is derisive and dismissive.

"You're weird". No I'm not. Sod off.

"Do you want to [insert disguised request here]?". No, actually I really don't want to. If you want me to do it, just ask me to please do it.

One that causes me a lot confusion is when someone says "next Friday", "next Monday" or whenever. I understand this to mean the next Friday or Monday but NT's often mean the Friday or Monday AFTER that. So I often have to specify the date to be sure.

This annoys me too. When I say next Monday I mean next Monday, not the Monday after that, not three Monday's from now, I mean NEXT Monday.

Next Monday is this Monday and next Monday is the Monday after this Monday.
I always have to double check what the person means myself.

Yeah......me too!

When my wife says "next Monday," she means the Monday after next.

When she says "this Monday," she means the next Monday coming.

I think of "next Monday" as being "this Monday."

This creates confusion, and makes my wife think that I'm a dummy LOL

I hate fillers - the current one is "basically." Before that it was "y'know. Sometimes it's the F* word. And now all sentences begin with "So ..." - why?

When I was a kid waiting in line for carnival rides with my mom, and I wasn't far enough in line to be let on to the next ride they were letting on, my mother said I would get on the ride "next time." That made me upset because her tone of voice made it sound like I would ride it the next time we were at that carnival, not the next time they loaded the ride. It took me years to realize her true context.

I've actually missed appointments or have shown up a week early because of the confusion caused by the "Next Monday" kind of phrases.

A word/phrase that my Mom uses at times that makes me cringe internally is "slurp" as in "Let me have a slurp of your drink." I dunno, it conjures up images and sounds of her doing something disgusting to my drink. If she's going to "slurp" my drink, i don't want it back after!

I also dislike being called "bud." No real rationale for this one, but the word irks me. I'm better with "buddy" for whatever reason.

A slurp is much more than a sip...and much noisier.
