Women with autism are also often mis-diagnosed with bipolar.

I getting as assessment would be a good thing for you.

I have found that I am severely heat intolerant, especially when it is also humid. The last week here has been brutal, with triple digit temperatures. I have felt sick, tired and about to faint.

It was suggested by my kindergarten teacher that I was hyperactive, a diagnosis that proved to be false. Asperger syndrome wasn't a formal diagnosis in the 1970s. I was probably showed differences even before I was born. Sometimes I wonder how someone with such obvious differences got as far as she did but, at other times, I knew I could have done more if given more opportunities.

I first read the Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome and really got a lot from it. It was the first time I'd even read something that I felt was describing my own childhood. Even though many of the traits described aren't as prevalent in women, I could relate to most of it and it helped me to identify things that I struggled with that I didn't even realize I did.
For books related specifically to women, the one I related to the most was Aspergirls by Rudy Simone. She really broke down all of the different ways that ASD presents in females and how it can affect a person's life and things that can be done to help. I also enjoyed Pretending to be Normal, but I'd most highly recommend Aspergirls and The Complete Guide To Asperger's Syndrome.

Good choice of books there. For parents and people really new To Autism with a genuine interest I always suggest Autism, A short introduction by Uta Frith. As others have said we can't diagnose you, but I would be very surprised if you were not one of us. Another egg hater here. I find even the smell makes me bork. I have trained myself to sit in the same room as someone eating one but it's a struggle and sometimes still have to leave

That's me too. I can not tolerate heat, it's horrible. Cold I either can't feel or I enjoy it. I wake in the middle of the night soaking if the temperature rises and usually sleep with the window open in all but the very worst weather

Maybe not as severe as yourself but I have a low threshold for heat, despite the fact that I can use saunas and steam rooms. That said, I suffer when it's humid or just really hot, especially of a night time, and when showering, my maximum heat is just lukewarm or even cold to NTs I know. I've known this from a very early age and since being diagnosed (well quite a few years after that really), I've always believed it to be because of my AS, so you're not the only one!

Honestly you sound just like me. I didn't rebel in my teenage years, but we're the same age, and where you are now mirrors my life eerily. I have a boyfriend of about two and a half years, and we're very platonic. I've never had sex, and have no interest in it. I also ignore my friends in favour of my obsessions (which just so happens to be Pokemon at the moment; you'll have to tell me more about what "painting Pokemon cards" means!) and I hate a lot of food textures (and yes, lettuce does have a smell, and it's awful!) I'd say you sound a lot like someone with autism, and I'd encourage you to see if you can find someone to offer a proper diagnosis if it's something you're concerned about.

You do sound like me! My instagram for my cards is starlightcardart if you wanted to have a look. LOVE POKEMON and have my whole life, except for when I was a teenager... Everyone teased me so I stopped and kept it on the down low. I'm waiting for my assessment now.. It's the longest wait ever though ahah..

That sounds awesome :D I've never used Instagram before, but I can't imagine it would be that hard to work out. Good luck with your assessment, I hope you find the answers you're looking for!

Off-topic, but what's your favourite Pokemon? Mine's Umbreon, I love the shiny version :)

I'm sure you can just google search it and it will come up. I always find it hard to figure out which is my fav pokemon because it changes all the time but Charizard, jolteon, arcanine. I do love all the eeveelutions though!

For the longest time my favourite used to be Charmander, because who doesn't love an adorable fire dinosaur? I love the Eeveelutions too, Flareon is my second-favourite after Umbreon. I've always had a soft spot for Mew as well :) Feel free to PM me if you want to keep the discussion going, so I don't clutter up your thread

You sound a lot like me. I also learned about ASD from a therapist thinking that I had it, but I resisted it for years and so never got officially diagnosed. No friends, intense interests, a 5 year boyfriend but a very atypical relationship, not doing well in group interactions. I would suggest you read some books on female asperger's. If you're as much like me as I think you are, I think you'll relate to a lot.

Do you have any suggestions on what books I should get?

Also try "Nerdy, Shy, and Socially Inappropriate", by Cynthia Kim. You might find it more relatable than one written from a man's perspective since Asperger's expresses a little differently between the sexes.
