I decided to go where life takes me. I was interested aviation as well and eventually found my career in aviation. It's rewarding financially and makes me happy. If you can get a job at an airline, then you can travel free. There are many different different jobs - maintenance, planning, air traffic control et. al. I'm sure you can find something that works for you and you will be around people that have a similar interest. You can also join an aviation club. There's no reason to deny yourself what makes you happy when you can combine your life, hobby, and career.

How did you get into the industry? I am thinking about getting another degree. I mainly got my original degree (GIS) as it was the only major related to my interests that I thought I could make a living at available at my university. I am thinking about an aviation management degree.

I only got my A&P license which is two years at a tech school. You can do that and then continue and get a bachelors in management. Of course, you can go the pilot route or air traffic control. There are a few things you can do without either license too depending on what you prefer doing. EAA, AOPA, and civil air patrol are a few groups that have local meetings that might be able to help you too.

You could get a job in aviation. Various jobs you could get within the aviation field, that wouldn't be disqualified by ASD.

Fellow GIS guy and transportation buff here!! !

I have always been fascinated with road and air travel. (sea travel, not so much). My degree is in geography and urban planning.

Do you play Flight Simulator on your computer? If so, is it FSX or X-Plane?

I used to play FSX when I had a windows machine now I have a Mac and I haven’t yet to find a suitable replacement that works on MacOS.

I never heard of x-plane it looks like it’s available for Mac too :)

My NT wife has been obsessed with aviation since the age of five, so she did the logical thing and got a job in the industry. There are lots of different jobs, with varied training and certification requirements. You should investigate it. As someone mentioned already, the travel benefits are great (though most airlines let you fly at 10% plus tax, not free).

Bikes. I would spend the next two days tinkering around with bike parts if it was polite to do so. I might fantasise about riding through Norway at the same time and then come inside and look at lots of bikes on eBay.

I've always had strong special interests that I've celebrated.

I have dead special interests and live ones. Nothing wrong with it as long as you're not harming yourself.

I still have loads of info stored in my brain from them, and every now and then it comes in very handy.

Endocrinology is one of my weirder ones, but was sparked through personal experience in having a malfunctioning endocrine system. Nothing too bad, I will add, and everything has been under control for years, but I read up on all sorts of hormones and what they do in your body, and got really interested in endocrinology. I don't really look up new info for that special interest anymore.

Music, history, and language are ones that have stayed with me throughout the years.

I’d rather be with someone with intense interest in the above subjects, rather than someone who’s interested in nothing.

Unless it's someone like Sartre, who was very, very interested in nothing.

I too have a very intense interest at the moment and I'm trying to curb it and get to work on IRL stuff but I'm struggling.
