That's for others to decide, but if so, then it's the just the old song once again: that autistic people are a mixed bunch. "Japanophilia" gave me a sense of direction in life. I got my ASD diagnosis many years ago, but I had a wish to move to Japan before that, and following through with that inspired me.

I'm sure there are lo-functioning Japanophiles as well, but I doubt there's a rule or even a weak pattern to find. I loved Japan so much I wanted to die there when I was younger. Now I'm not quite so sure about that, but still ...

I had that same thing when I was a teen.

For me, I enjoy Japanese animation, clothing, stationery etc. Part of it is the fantasy and other worldliness of it. It calms me and helps me escape.
I would love to visit to see the reality of Japan. I also love the beauty of cherry blossom.

Japanese media at least is HIGHLY special interestable
For any functioning level.
For me personally, the food is amazing especially sensory wise.
So I'd say yes but not specifically "Low functioning" rather autistic people in general.

~japanophile
A non-Japanese person who has a near-indescrimate love of all things from Japan. Japanophiles watch anime religiously, import overpriced novelty items from Japan, collect samurai swords, play untranslated Japanese video games, eat large amounts of Japanese food, rave about how Japanese culture is superior to every other culture on the planet, etc...
weeaboo (n): a mostly derogatory slang term for a Western person who is obsessed with Japanese culture, especially anime, and who often regards Japanese culture as superior to all other cultures.

There's some anime that I've liked, but I can never remember the titles.

My girlfriend (who is NT) has always had a fascination with Asian cultures
and has been wanting to try Japanese food.

She may get her chance in December because a sushi restaurant is near our school.
