All I know is that you have to score at 'classical autism' level for both social communication and social interaction to get that diagnosis.

Mine: social communication 3(classical autism level) ; social interaction 5(classical autism level starts at 6) .

I am firmly of the belief that the "diagnosis does not make the person."

Alas, you do need a diagnosis to benefit from the services of the NHS.

It is simple things like visiting the dentist that makes the difference as if I need work done, they can put me to see the specialist so I can be knocked out to save me being stressed. Without a diagnosis my dentist can find that she is not allowed to have me see the specialist. My dentist said as soon as I know to let her know straight away so I can have my name down to be seen to.

I don't have Asperger's, either.

I have "classic autism." Because of my childhood history. I was diagnosed with autism at age 3----the "classic" type---which was the only "type" around during the 60s.

I am firmly of the belief that Asperger's and high-functioning "classic" autism are different disorders within the Autistic Spectrum.

Asperger's and high-functioning "classic" autism are definitely different disorders among the many autisms that exist on the autism spectrum.

I'm surprised, too that ICD is used in the US. I'm European and we use ICD, so mine was F8450 (Asperger's).
Plus two more
