at the bus stop, a woman was screaming things like "i beat yo ass!" @ four people. the four people tried to tell her to go away. she kept barking @ them. at one point it appeared that she kicked someone. they told her to go away and she did. they got on the bus.

how often does someone tell you "i beat yo ass?". what was your answer?

It's been awhile but I'm prone to (calmly) daring people to follow through on those sorts of threats.

I've always been pretty game and don't really have much of a sense of humour when it comes to people threatening me with violence or trying to assault me.

I find a lot of people who wish to be physically menacing back off when you insist that they s**t or get off the pot, because the point of their behaviour wasn't to get into a fight, it was a bluff. I've also found that shutting down someone else's attacks is often even more effective than just beating their ass, possibly because it makes the other party question their ability to control the situation well before you've played your full hand and escalated to a full-on fight.

I use sticky hands a lot when seeking to shut down someone's attempt at striking me.

No one has ever said that to me.

No one has used those exact words to me, but I've heard the equivalent. As someone who shifts quickly into flight or flight mode, but who is usually disinclined to flee, I'd say, "Try it."

No one told me that.

And if they do, depends where and when.

But overall, anyone who threatens me of unwarranted violence all the sudden gets to be treated like a tantruming kid accordingly in my eyes.

I could care less if they're 2 heads taller than me and ripped -- I deem them that they're being immature.

And if they're actually being anti-social like (they don't calm down, they don't listen or deescalate, likely to follow through whatever threat) that's another matter.
Not going to discuss the subject of self defense, only that I'm not afraid to get hit.

No I haven't had that pleasure yet. Sounds like the poor woman had lost her reason, but I'd probably not have had a crumb of sympathy if she'd gone off like that anywhere near me.

There was a man in Sheffield town centre who seemed to be deliberately colliding with people. Don't know what his problem was, didn't care either. I was probably wise to avoid him.

I suppose there'll always be the occasional weird aggressive thing like that going on. Some kind of madness I guess.

I was going to say "Who picks a fight with the guy holding the jelly burner?", but I can't find a reference on Google for jellyburner being a euphemism for flamethrower.
It was a common enough term last century.
But the underlying point was...only drunk, short men with a chip on their shoulder pick on me.

Today on the bus , some dude was saying things like "don't put your hand in my face and touch me. I kill you. I'm pissed off. I pull your pants down and beat you. Then you won't be laughing.". It was not clear if he was talking to me. I didn't have the nerve to ask. The bus driver told him to calm down and he said he was fine. Other passengers on the bus were sitting right there and they didn't answer him. I wasn't laughing and I tried not to make eye contact.

Earlier he had gotten up and gone to the front of the bus and returned. I don't remember if I blocked my head with my hand, but I certainly did not touch him

He didn't look familiar and I take the same bus a lot

I got off the bus the second to last stop. He stayed on the bus. He didn't touch me. He wasn't facing me and he didn't get too close to me either. When I got off the bus, he didn't make eye contact with me or say anything to me

(Rolls eyes)

He was just being "true" to himself. He has "freedom of speech" and he didn't do anything wrong because he didn't do anything at all. He has "rights"

Idiots like him make me uncomfortable. Makes me want to puke!

They act like they have a moral "right" to be happy at all times and any times they are not happy, it proves someone violated their stupid lil "rights"

I think he was guilty of using threatening behaviour and he deserves a good smacking for it. But it probably wouldn't change him. Sounds like he's gone loopy and probably not reachable by the usual means of sticks and carrots. I wish people like that didn't exist and I don't know what sends them that way.

I'd be tempted to deadpan I probably could use a good spanking followed by some creepy excessive eye contact and eyebrow arching. :skull:

You're right, the word has been surgically removed from cyberspace. Assuming it was ever there. I though the internet knew everything.

It has been a long time (decades) since someone has told me that. At 6"1' and 300+ pounds, I have a sturdy body frame like a linebacker. My arms are not very strong, but my back and legs are unusually strong. (In college I would often max out the weights on back and leg machines in the gym.) Something I learned in high school is that I can absorb hits and then dish them out in kind in a fight. I am too old to be getting into fights now, so I just try my best to prevent them.

No one has ever said that to me except maybe when I was beimg bullied in elementary & middle school. If someone were to act like that with me today I'd threaten to call the police & if they didn't back off or calm down after a couple seconds I'd call 911.

It sounds like she may have had some mental health issues and was having an episode. People like this will go off at anyone due to those issues. The best thing to do is walk away and let them yell or call the transit authorities who are better trained.

As for for the person who she kicked, the other person can press charges against her.
