I took the intake assessment with some woman and she told me I’m developmentally normal and just have like a milder version of depression…

I’ve spent years believing I have autism

She said it’s normal to be bullied and stuff and figure out who you like .. well yes but I’m actively lying to people and changing how I am to be more likable

I feel stupid because then why do I need clarification for everything why do I misunderstand everything miss subtexts often

Precisely, "intake assessment" for what?

What were the credentials of "some woman"? How did she end up doing an "intake assessment" of you?

Have you ever had a formal Adult Autism Assessment? (By a licensed Psychologist who works with Autism?)

P.S. Not formal, not official, but interesting: AQ.

she had a PHD... I think. she was specifically the autism intake assessment person, it said on the zoom name label(however she might've just been a random psychologist) before I could do the bigger test. though, Ive been within the same circle of providers due to my insurance and the psychology branches are beginning to have a theme of not being that great. the questions where yes or no but it was hard because a lot of it was situational.

I had to ask my therapist for an assessment then I had to take what was basically the quiz you sent me to get an intake assessment to eventually take the final one if It came up that I could be autistic.

she said(not verbatim) : you tend to get frustrated then can't tolerate things around you, you have depression. you seem smart to notice things about people enough to change yourself to be like them. then something about how I am introspective so it could lead to me thinking I have something living in my head and stuff. Idk :| she also said, how can you be afraid of socializing but also be funny... I can be nervous and push through it to become liked sometimes it feels like there's no other option even when id rather just be quiet :ninja: she also said like you're finding out your interests this is all normal development(what 11 year old gives 2 s**ts about the 1920s and carries that for 7 years)

anyway on the quiz u linked I got 37

I don't have a diagnosis as I don't have the money but was told for a long time to " stop putting labels on myself ", I've taken a couple online tests and I score off the charts. Not to mention a lot of my behavior as a child and some as an adult. Getting yelled at constantly, bullied severely in school, called The R word, and more.

As a child as well as an adult, odd interests, poor social skills, needing a set schedule and routine.

an itinerary if I am say on vacation or around the holidays, i.e how long will be here? where are we going?, what time will arrival and departure be, and things like that. This got me chewed out a few times in my life!

In a nutshell, I am tired of being dismissed and blown off myself.

https://www.findapsychologist.org

They have to assess you against the DSM criteria. It is kind of fun. And I got a written report comparing me to the DSM criteria.

(And Aspies can be funny!)

Maybe I just didn’t fit the bill or something because she does specialize in ASD, regardless I’ll get a written report this week. I’m probably going to drop the endeavor and be normal because she’s probably right as she has the credentials idk. I’m coping lol

Thank you for your resources though

I recently did the AQ, EQ, SQ and RAADS-R tests, and scored high in the “autistic” range (129 on the RAADS-R, apparently neurotypicals don’t score higher than 64) on all of them. I’m here because of that. How important is it to get a formal diagnosis? I’m 69 and retired. I don’t think it’s important. I have, however, made an appointment with my therapist.

In your case the formal diagnosis could do more harm than good. I don't have one but I did talk to a therapist about it once and that might help you.

How important a formal diagnosis is depends on you.

● If you need medical care because of it then you need a formal diagnosis.
● Otherwise, if a formal diagnosis might interfere with your career you might want to wait 'til later.
● Otherwise, it is really up to you.

I did not need anything special because of my Autism. Whether or not to get a formal diagnosis was solely so I would know.

I was completely retired (yes, twice!) in 2011 and I got my diagnosis in 2019 so there was no career impact for me.
I had been in the military, many years before that. An Autism diagnosis might've been a problem with them but we did not know I was Autistic until long after I was out of the military.

So, I got the diagnosis purely because I wanted to know. I am only mildly Autistic (Level 1) so without a diagnosis I would've been left wondering whether I really was Autistic, or really was almost Autistic.

Knowing for sure was still wonderful for me. It explained so much in my life!

I'll admit that I am now trying get my medical care tweaked to accommodate my Autism diagnosis. Mainly it would mean communicating differently with me. So far, no luck. They don't seem to care!

Oh. There has been one wonderful benefit from my formal diagnosis. Now, whenever my bride bumps into one of my Autistic traits, I get to say;

"I have a doctor's note for that!"

She's not as amused by that as I am!

Lolzz, ";A Doctors Note ". lololzz , cute . from above, but in regards to getting a diagnosis to the OP,
am thinking you might get better results on your assessment, if you see a qualified Psyche doc..that pretty much does work *primarily* with Autistic individuals . In real life. And if it was
through your own insurance, And your Psyche Doc works and gets paid through your insurance. Often the insurance company can "limit " whom they can diagnose with whatever? ""As long as it does not affect any monies the insurance
company might have to pay out in the future for your care . Prescriptions, whatever?
A comparison : Many prescribers ,Doctors etc. Are normally allowed to prescibe things that are in the Insurances companies predetermined formularies. ( list of drugs Insurance company can afford to cover). If lucky you might a good Doc that will offer honest opinions.
Finding a real life Psyche Doc that primarily treats/ assesses Autism spectrum issues, Might have to be paid out of pocket. IMHO. And can be a issue. Had to go to the next State over to find a qualified one within any reasonable distance to me.

My wife has apparently assumed I was autistic ever since the possibility was first brought to her attention. Still claims to love me.
