About crystals and rocks I SO recognise that, but when on holiday in Glastonbury and Taunton this year and swooning in front of the displays I saw the price of the things, and decided to buy a beautiful book of pictures and chem compositions instead .Because I knew I could have spent 100's and 100's in there otherwise. I just bought a few as representatives, to go with my extensive shell and pebble collection!!

Otherwise , because part of making myself behave like an NT in teens and twenties involved cutting down on "baggage" , emotional and physical, so I ruthlessly eliminated clutter for many years, the only real collection which I have , to which I add whenever find another GOOD enough , is of CHILDRENS BOOKS.
Which I still read too!

I collect books; I have since I was a small child. I love to read and I'm usually not without a book. What people who know me don't realize is that the vast majority of my books haven't been read. They might never be read because I'm always buying more. I'm a really fast reader, but I'm not fast enough to keep up with the rate at which I buy them.

I have a huge book case with glass doors that is now overfilled to capacity with books (every few months, I reorganize them). For Christmas I'm going to buy myself another one since I now have books stacked up on my bedside table and in various other places around my apartment. My parents have boxes and boxes of books in their attic from when I was a child and teenager (even after giving a lot of them to goodwill after they moved while I was in college).

When I was in high school, I also collected everything I could about a band I was obsessed with (I'm not going to say who cause it's a bit embarrassing). I had every CD, tape, and album from them or with them on it I could get my hands on. I had every import by them, every t-shirt, every poster, I even had their autobiography, which you had to order from the record company. I cut out every magazine picture and article they were in and had them organized in three ring binders. If I was in a store and found a magazine with them in it, sometimes I would sneak it into a bathroom and rip the article/picture out and put it in my purse so I didn't have to buy the mag.

i have always had big collections....

when I was little it was rocks....I was also obsessed with petrified wood....and stamps...and these little rubber robots with suction cups on the backs...i also had a big doll collection...

As a teenager, I ended up with dozens of vintage hats...
I always wore a hat, and my entire room was consumed by vintage hats and vintage clothing....(obsessed with antiquities I was)
(one of the weirdest, meanest things my mom ever did was put all my hats in a garbage bag in the garage where they were promptly peed on by cats  ...but that effectively stalled my obsessive hat collecting...i guess..

currently I have a collection of 50+ mis-matched raggedy annes and andys I love to go hunting for them at thrift stores...it is the happiest feeling to find one...

I also love antique homemade quilts, and have several very nice ones

I have several mini-collections..sock clowns...crocheted animals...homemade toys in general....sock monkeys...and so on...

oh yeah..I have hundreds of pairs of socks...even though I seldom ever actually wear socks...

I collect minerals. I have several thousand mineral specimens and I can identify my entire collection by touch behind my back. I started collecting when ~6 and I had a display by 10 years old. I have a rockery in my back garden made up of large rocks I collected. The first time I ever hugged anything with enthusiasm was a large boulder that had lots of quartz crystals (in 1999) ... I was then given the knick name Diamond Dave on that day by a classmate. My favorite mineral is the tourmaline group because of it complex chemistry, unlimited colors and strange piezo- and pyroelectric properties. I also collect mineral books.

Dioptase from Altyn-tube, Kazakhstan.

Oh i adore dioptase :)
if im not mistaken they cant reproduce tourmaline in the lab, too complicated.

Oh, yes! From marbles to pretty stones, to model airplanes to book series (hardy boys to James Bond to sci-fi) to games (board and then computer) to vinyl records to cassettes...
Budget has always constrained my collecting or I'd have filled a couple of houses with stuff, not only useful stuff but Potentially Useful Stuff ("pus.")
I've had to force myself to stop bringing pus home (and old furniture, shelves to put it on.) Now as an adult, I just collect books (few of which I get around to reading,) magazines, computer games, video tapes, DVDs and online stuff. [I need to clean out the storage unit and stop paying to store stuff I don't use!]

Nope. I'm an avid thrower-awayer

Seriously, I cannot stand clutter, almost to the point of being neurotic about it. Or maybe I've crossed that line, I don't know. I throw everything away if there's no immediate use for it. I've even thrown away shampoos and soaps because it would take a long time to get to the point where I'd use them (extras, not the ones in the shower) and I couldn't stand knowing they were there for a second longer.

Things I collect are online. I create many websites (often for other people because I don't know what I'd do with them all), I collect graphics and blinkies, different HTML codes that I havn't yet memorized, some scripts, things like that. I don't want to collect anything that invades my space.

I collect
- maps to stadiums and photos of stadiums
- records of my favourite bands
- used to collect foreign coins and bank notes

Quite obsessive collector when it comes to the first two, however my money collection is on hiatus.

I also never delete any email received.

My collections:

Books
CDs
45s and records
post cards
stamps
china dolls
antique pipes
glass bottles
old/foreign soda bottles
old camaras
antique pipes
antique irons
shot glasses

Many of my collections I have alot of and some others only a few but am always looking to add to any of them. Except the stamps: I haven't added to the stamp collection since I was very young, but it was the first collection I started, and I still keep it. :)

Funny I collect so much yet at the same time, if it's not one of my collections that I enjoy adding to, I tend to be a thrower-awayer and and am constantly going through stuff and getting rid of things I don't think I need or will use and also don't like clutter lying around.

What can I say: I'm a bundle of contradictions...

I collect radio airchecks. I have about 250 cassette tapes filled with them. I have stuff from the 1940s to the 1990s. I stopped trading for them years ago, so they sit in a box or two.

I started collecting them because I loved pop radio in the 1960s, and I wanted to try and find airchecks of my favorite DJ ever, Big Jack Armstrong.

Now I am personal friends with Big Jack, and I still have boxes of tapes than I mean to record to my hard drive, but can't ever get up the gumption to. Some of them have some emotional meaning for me, but most were just accumulated because I was "collecting."
