Is there a desire in you to be the best at your special interest. Whether knowing more about that subject, loving it more, or being able to do something no one you know of is able to do on earth.

I wish I was, but it's not always possible.

My trouble is that my special interests and natural aptitudes never correlate. My strongest skill is English; I learned to read and write when I was two and a half and studied English at university. The problem is that I don't have the same enthusiasm for writing poetry as I do for collecting retro computers and video games or watching Spurs play.

I seem to be the best at my special interests. Work is one of those interests, and music is another one.

Oh, heavens yes! I get very, very competitive if somebody suggests that they know more about one of my biggest special interests than I do. I get very defensive and demand them to challenge me. And they always lose in trivia contests. Seriously, though, I know that I know more about I Love Lucy and "Is it a Good Idea to Microwave This?" than almost anybody else in the world, even other Aspies, so it's a blow to my pride when somebody thinks they're better than I am. My memory for facts about my special interests is one of my only talents, and I will defend it whenever I can. Usually, I am one of the least braggart-ish people you'll ever know, but if my knowledge for my special interests is put into question, I will show off my knowledge to prove in any way that I am the best.

I never needed to be the best - just to meet my goals, solve my problems, answer my questions. By my definitions, though, I am - have been for years - the best. Only thing is, the majority in the field think on a different plane and draw their data from another dimension and figure I am data-oriented and cracked and useless.

Good thing I was content to be best and did not crave recognition - I ain't a-gonna git it.

Is it better to be the best at your special interest, know the most about it, or love that special interest more than anyone else on earth.

Yes! I hate when people are better artists than me. Even though I like it, too. It still bugs me. And makes me feel stupid. XD

Absolutely yes! When I become a fan of something, I have to be able to make the best fanart and fanfiction for it, and I feel insanely jealous and competitive towards anyone whom I think is more talented or getting more recognition than me. I think this stems back to when I was obsessed with Hamtaro at around 10 or 11 years old. During that time I wrote a fanfic for it with a plot very loosely based off of Titanic. Many other Hamtaro fans adored it and asked if they could host it on their websites. That was a huge boost to my ego. Ever since then, I've had a desire to be a better fanfic writer/fanartist than anyone else in my preferred fandoms.

A great example of how competitive I can be was during my Hellsing phase. I was very, VERY jealous of a fan named Erin Ptah, because she does a popular Hellsing-based webcomic called "And Shine Heaven Now". I had my own ideas for a Hellsing based webcomic, but I felt that my art and writing skills were inferior, so I never tried. Instead I seethed with rage whenever I happened to come across her artwork while rountinely browsing DeviantART for Hellsing stuff. I was also jealous of other Hellsing fanartists who did artwork for the very popular website Solid&ETC and the webcomic "Penwood".

My current fandoms have much less competition, since they aren't nearly as popular as Hellsing.

Yup! I feel like I need to know the most about SpongeBob and have the biggest collection! I'd probably would not be very happy if I met a bigger SpongeBob fan than me! Though I was pretty calm when I entered a SpongeBob SuperFan competition and Nickelodeon did not crown me the UK's biggest SpongeBob fan! :P

I want to be the best when it comes to numerology. I do not mind though if someone is better than me... I can pick their brain that way and improve. It generally does not work that way for me anymore though. I went to some stupid 'psychic fair' a few years back to ask their numerologist questions and she told me I knew more about it than she did. I got mad and left. Heh. I wish I could find people who excel in that... I have some unanswered questions in my head.
